This is a rewrite of the second part of my unexpected Verse Shopping with the Dursleys. The original version was uploaded at ff.net on 8/31/2007. It was 1919 words. This version is 2014 words.

Shopping with the Dursleys

He arrived out side the Leaky Cauldron where Veronica Dursley was waiting with her mother. He was a bit surprised not to see Dudley with them. “Where’s Dudley?” He asked as a formality since it was clear he wasn’t there his cousin was too large to be easily missed.

“There was a problem at the gym her works for.” Annie said as her daughter kept bouncing impatiently. “Veronica calm down we’ll be heading in soon?” She said turning to her Daughter who subsided. “Harry I wanted to ask you some things about the stuff Dudley has told me if you don’t mind?”

“Sure I’ll do my best to answer any questions you have.” He was actually relieved that Dudley wasn’t here there were too many bad memories despite how well they’d parted. He was surprised to hear that Dudley worked for a gym his Uncle had always insisted that Dudley was going to follow him into the family bussiness.

“Dudley mentioned some kind of war and that it was over now but...” He understood she was worried about her duaghter’s safety. “He couldn’t give me too many specifics only that it involved you and his whole family went into hiding for a year.”

He gave her a brief overview of the war as they walked into the leaky cauldron. He was use dto the stares now but he saw that she was shocked by the blatant staring that was going on. “Sorry.” Harry said once he got her out into the alley. “But it’s the price of being famous from the war.”

He continued with his quick rundown on the war with Voldemort as they headed to Gringotts to exchange money. “You can exchange money inside there but it is best that I don’t go in with you. Gringotts isn’t exactly fond of me because of the time during the war I had to break into the vaults.” He tended to let Ginny do all the family banking since the goblins followed him around constantly any time he was there.

He guided them to Madame Minkin’s shop so her daughter could be fitted with robes. “I have a question.” Annie asked suddenly. “Why do people like me and my husband produce Magical offspring?”

He was a bit shocked no one had ever asked him that. “I don’t really know.” He had just always taken it for granted that muggleborns existed and never wondered why. “I’ll have to ask Hermione about it sometime.” He saw the curious look. “My Best Friend’s wife a muggleborn and was the best witch in our year.” He paused for a bit smiling at Hermione’s imagined reaction to the question. “She’ll either know or become obsessed with finding out and search every book in existence on the subject.”

“I was just wondering,” she said calmly. “Because when I told my parents my mom seemed a bit shocked and wondered if Veronica got it from us.” Hecouldn’t help but be curious about that. “I mean according to Mom her Grandfather went a bit funny before he died and kept insisting to someone who wasn’t there that he wasn’t a squib and not to send him to be with muggles.” She seemed to pause. “But I have no clue what a Squib is.” She said looking down. “I only bring it up cause of the word muggle which you said was used for non magic people.”

“A Squib is the opposite of a muggleborn.” He said curiously. “A child with at least one magical parent who was born without magic.” He really wasn’t sure what it could mean. “According to someone I know squibs were usually sent off to live with non magical families to make it easier on them or hide them.” He paused, “You wouldn’t happen to know your Great Grandfather’s surname would you?”

“It was Kingston but that was supplied by the Orphanage.” She looked away. “According to Mom he had been found at the orphanage a six-year-old boy with no memory of where he came from.” He could guess that whoever his parents had been they had obviated his mind to keep him hidden. “I was told he only went funny there at the end of his life.”

“I have a very good idea what happened.” He looked at her wondering how she would take this. “He was probably born to a family obsessed with blood purity and they erased his mind when it became obvious he was a squib to hide him.” He wondered how they’d explained his disappearance death or the truth. “He’s really lucky they didn’t just kill him off.”

He could tell she was really freaked out about it. “Just like with muggles there are bad eggs in the wizarding world. “ He said trying to soothe her. “It’s been getting better the last 20 years or so.” He said with a smile.

“Do you have any children?” She asked suddenly as they were leaving with her daughter’s robes. Veronica who had bene extremely well behaved so far looking around excitedly at her heels. “I asked Dudley but he didn’t know.”

“I have three.” Harry said with a smile. “My two sons are already in Hogwarts and my daughter starts next year.” He remembered how relieved Al had sounded when he ended up in Gryffondore. “I’ll introduce you at Kings Cross.” He said and seeing her nod smiled.

While getting Veronica her books, he was surprised to run into Antonia and John Weasley. “Hey Uncle Harry.” John said walking over his red hair obviously marking him a Weasley. His Older Sister Antonia however was the spitting image of her mother Penelope except for a pair of Horn-rimmed glasses like her father. “And who is this.” He asked Veronica who was staring around happily.

“I’m Veronica Dursley.” She said brightly and curtsied. “My Daddy is Mr. Harry’s Cousin.” She looked around at all the thick books on the shelves with a bit of trepidation.” Harry couldn’t help but smile when John offered to help her find her books and left with her and her mother.

“So Antonia, where is everyone else?” He asked Percy’s oldest daughter who in many ways despite her similarity to her mother in appearance was very much like him. He could just see that her mind was somewhere else.

“Mother and Father are helping Eleanore buy her wand and robes.” She said calmly. “John and I are purchasing everyone’s books and Owen is supposed to be refilling our potion ingredients.” He knew from her tone she doubted the oldest of her younger siblings was doing that. “I imagine we will find him at Uncle George’s goofing off or staring at the latest racing broom in Quality Quidditch supplies.”

Harry knew she was getting ready to go on a tangent about how irresponsible her brother was and decided to change the subject. “So what House does Eleanor want to be in?” He wondered because unlike the rest of the family so far Percy hadn’t had a single child in Gryffondore much to his annoyance at George’s teasing about it.

“She says she will be in Gryffondore like dad.” Antonia said primly and flicking a bit of her brown hair over her shoulder. “I expect she’ll get her wish though if not I hope she ends up in Ravenclaw with me and John instead of Hufflepuff with Owen.” She gave the first indication of something other than her normal adult tone when she spoke next. “The Fact they won the Quidditch cup last year has made Owen more irritating than ever.”

James had been furious as well; his first year on the Gryffondore quidditch team as a chaser and they got crushed by his cousin and Hufflepuff. He could still remember his son ranting that Hufflepuff only won because the sorting hat put Owen there by mistake. “Oh Congratulation on becoming Head Girl.” He said noticing his Niece brighten considerably at him finally remembering and congratulating her on it.

He was saved from listening to her go on about how good it was for her future prospects when Annie and her daughter returned having gotten their books. “I’ll see you two later.” He said to them and then escorted Annie and her daughter to the next stop on their list. As they passed quality Quidditch supplies, he spied the jet black hair of Owen Weasley goofing off with a few of his friends and showing them what looked like a tattoo of the Hufflepuff crest. “I hope your dad doesn’t know about that.” He said as they approached and Owen looked up guiltily.

“It’s just one of Uncle George’s removable reusable fakes.” He said sheepishly. “I wanted a real one but Dad said he’d hex me into next week if I showed up with one.” Harry introduced him to the Dursleys. “Pleasure to meet you but wasn’t Dursley the last name of that guy that Uncle George helped give the ton tongue toffee too?”

Harry shot him a look to be quiet and said pointedly. “Aren’t you supposed to be buying potion ingredients?” At which point Owen said he had to go as he needed to get that done before his parents found him. He didn’t think either Annie or Veronica needed to hear about the Ton tongue toffee incident.

“A strange boy.” Annie observed after he had left. “And what’s a ton tongue toffee?” Harry didn’t answer he just waited as they were approaching a store he knew would get a reaction. “What on earth is that?” She asked staring at a store.

“That’s Weasleys’ Wizard Weezies.” He said with a smile. “My Brother-in-law George founded it with his twin brother Fred.” He smiled even more when Annie wanted to head inside. “Why don’t we go get your wand first?” He suggested knowing he’d have to explain and warn Annie about some of what was in there before they got there. The little girl brightened and commented that she had really wanted a wand most of all. Harry knew that was true it seemed everyone looked forward to the wands the most.

As they approached the shop, Annie pointed. “I think I see another of your brother in laws.” Harry looked and saw she was pointing at Percy’s back. He and Penelope walked with a little red haired girl between them. “A lot of red hair in your wife’s family isn’t there?”

He couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah my mother-in-law was a bit taken aback when some of her grand kids showed up without the red hair.” When they reached the shop he watched Annie and her daughter react to Ollivander. He had never been quite sure how to take the man and he saw he had that effect on the Dursleys as well. He couldn’t help but smile though when Veronica reacted to hearing some wands contained Unicorn tail hair. The little girl had become ecstatic and declaring she wanted one of those wands.

The reaction of Ollivander was even funnier because he spent the next few minutes trying to explain that a wizard had no control over the type of wand they were best suited for but the girl remained adamant until her mother informed her she would get the best wand for her regardless of what it contained. Harry could tell the girl still hadn’t given up hope because she smiled brighter every time Ollivander handed her a unicorn-cored wand. On the fifth wand they had a winner and much to Veronica’s delight it was cherry and unicorn hair.

Afterwards Annie managed to persuade her daughter to leave without a tour of Weasleys Wizard Weezies by asking her didn’t she want to go home and show daddy all the things they’d bought.
As Harry said goodbye to them and assured them he’d see them at Kings Cross to help them get on the platform he left wondering vaguely what family her great-grandfather had come from. He wondered what Hermione’s reaction to all that would be other than outrage at a wizarding family hiding away a squib with no memory of where he came from.

The End.

Notes: This is a rewrite of a fic I published on Oct. 4 2008 in my old Glasswolf account. The original fic was 668 words and this new one is 676.

Plausible Deniability

She sat watching as the heroes of Megakat city joked about as they changed her oil. She found it hard sometimes to resist letting them know that she knew the secret. It was so tempting to end the charade and just tell that she’d figured it out a few days after the first time she’d met the Swat Kats face to face. She wondered sometimes if they even realized how easy it would be for someone to notice that the two former Enforcers who ran the shop and salvage yard looked a lot like the Swat kats. She wondered occasionally if they really thought she was that easy to fool or if like her they were simply doing what they had to do.

As tempting as it was to tell them and end the charade she couldn’t do it. She knew that it would shatter the carefully constructed facade that allowed her to help them. Her years in politics had taught her that she had to be able to deny knowing who they were to be of any real help to them if their identity was ever exposed. She hoped that day would never come but if it did she had to be able to give them political support and she couldn’t do that if there was the slightest proof that she’d known. After all the mayor’s attitude towards the two of them varied depending on public opinion and she had no doubt that if it was his career or the Swat Kats he’d sacrifice them in a heart beat and hear along with them if necessary.

She was kept awake some nights dreading what would happen if they were ever exposed. They were far too important to the safety of Mega Kat City. She knew that Feral and the Enforcers tried their best but over the years the criminals that plagued the city had only gotten worse and the Enforcers less efficient at handling the problem. She couldn’t image the city lasting more htan a month without the Swat Kats around to save the day. She couldn’t help but occasionally entertain the notion that Commander Feral himself might know who they really were. After all if he really wanted to find them then he probably could; there had to be things they’d need to keep their jet in the air he could track. He didn’t seem to expend much effort at finding them instead he seemed to be devoting all his time and energy into proving they weren’t needed.

Of course a few minutes around the Commander were usually enough to disabuse her of that notion whenever it occurred to her. She noticed that the guys were done and so she tried to push her thoughts about the truth of things out of her head and pasted on a smile. She hoped someday she’d be able to tell them how long she’d known and have a real conversation but it wouldn’t be any time soon. “Thanks a lot guys I don’t know what I’d do without you,” She said letting a bit of the real gratitude she felt for them seep through.

“Glad we could be of help Callie.” Jake said cheerfully as he and Chance closed her hood. She spent a few moments talking with them before she had to leave. She knew they both had crushes on her and while she occasionally thought of taking Jake up on his offer she didn’t want to cause any problems in their team work. She wouldn’t do anythign that would really come between them so she contented herself with a flirtatious good bye to him whenever she left the shop.

“I’ll call you guys next time I need something,” She said noticing how close it was to the real truth about things. As she drove off she thought about how irritating having to have plausible deniability was. Still it was necessary and years of being the one to really run Megakat City had taught her more than she cared to know about its necessity.

This is a rewrite of a fic I wrote under Glasswolf. The original Unexpected Reunion kicked off what I called my unexpected verse and was 468 words. It was my take on the cliche Duddley has a magical daughter scenerio. I wasn’t originally going to rewrite it but then I got inspired the new version is 604 words.

Unexpected Reunion.

He couldn’t help but sigh as he stared at Number Four Private Drive. He hadn’t had a good time in this house and now he was back on such an unexpected errand. When he left that last time it had felt like forever and he never would have imagined being back here with this letter. He knew from Professor MacGonogal that his Aunt and Uncle were off at their home in Majorca and that Duddley lived here with his wife and daughter.

He heard a noise then and saw his cousin wearing a silly pink birthday hat being chased around the garden by a little girl who was clearly his daughter. She was slightly plump but better looking than her father he assumed she must have taken after her mother. Even as he was thinking how lucky the little girl was a pretty blonde woman stuck her head out of the house. “Did you have a good Birthday popkin?” She asked in a pleasant voice.

“Yes.” The little girl said happily and then in a slightly pleading tone. “Can I open the presents Grandpa and Grandma sent?” Harry didn’t miss the slight eye twitch and assumed that Duddley’s wife didn’t get along very well with her in laws which made Harry like her already. He could just imagine how many gifts they’d be sending their grand child considering the haul Duddley had gotten every year.

“You can open one the other thirty will have to wait.” He watched as his cousin’s wife sent him a look that clearly implied he wasn’t to contradict her. He felt a bit more hopeful about the letter he had to deliver now. He hadn’t been thrilled when MacGonogal had asked him to do this for her. He knew that she was hoping the fact he and Duddley had parted on some what good terms would help him break the news. He still couldn’t help but worry that there wouldn’t be thirty presents from his Aunt and Uncle at little Veronica Dursley’s next birthday.

He was still dwelling on that rather gloomy thought when he rang the doorbell and began trying to figure out what to say to Duddley. He was thrown for a loop when Duddley opened the door and hugged him before pulling him into the house. “I knew it would be you they sent.” Duddley turned toward his wife happily. “Annie, this is my cousin Harry I told you Veronica was special.” Harry stared dumbfounded as he was introduced and Veronica came over curious holding a new doll that obviously came from one of the thirty presents.

The next few minutes were a surprise Duddley of all people had figured out early on that Veronica was magic and simply expected Harry to turn up. He found himself laughing when Annie Dursley admitted privately to him that she had worried her husband was out of his mind with his stories of witches and wizards being real and his cousin being one.

However, the most excited of everyone was Veronica Dursley who was soon jumping for joy at the knowledge that her father’s fairy tail stories were true and she was going to be a witch. He found himself agreeing to going with them to buy Veronica’s school books and things next week instead of the usual Hogwart’s representative.

As he left pondering how completely weird that reunion was he once again found himself wondering how Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon were going to take having a magical grandchild. He wondered if his Aunt’s old jealousy and his Uncle’s bigotry were something they could get past or not.

The End.

Period of Adjustment

He knew obsessing like this wasn’t the best thing that instead he should be getting some much needed sleep but he found himself every night standing in front of a mirror wondering about his new body. He stared at his naked form and knew that intellectually it looked exactly the same as his old one based on medical scans but still he couldn’t help but wonder. It was extremely strange to know that under neath his apparant human skin was a Neo’s body.

He knew that Professor Algernon and Galba were convinced that he was a perfect resurrection but he couldn’t help but sometimes wonder. He was never a religious man and had never believed in what some called a soul but there was always the niggling doubt. What if he’d been wrong and there was such a thing as a soul surely his E-frame hadn’t held that and wouldn’t that make him just a fancy copy.

He could understand why his resurrection was being kept quiet as the powers that be argued over going public with it or not. He knew that there were fears that religious groups would object or that unscrupulous people would see it as a means for immortality.

He wasn’t sure he wanted the world to know as the occaisional questions of existence he wrestled with were bad enough when he was the only one asking. He could easily see public debates on rather he was real or just a fancy copy. There was also the disturbing possibility taht now tha the was at least in part a Neosapian that he could suffer random DNA mutations. He'd seen footage of Neosapiens suffering from the syndrome and he would not like his next death to be like that. He wondered if it even qualified as his next death or was it his first. HE was back to the question of he was the real Alec Deleon resurrected or just a fancy copy.

He thought his memory was intact he didn’t have any glaring blind spots but he couldn’t know for sure. He felt like Alec Deleon but at the same time he knew that a few religious officers in on the secret had shied away form him. They seemed to feel he was just a copy that some intagible part of the original was gone and not present inside him. He didn’t feel like anything was missing but at the same time there was the small bit of doubt. The paranoid feeling that maybe he was just a copy and programmed to think it was the real Deleon brought back.

He felt a bit cold and glanced at the clock. He’d been standing naked in front of the mirror for over an hour now so he really should get to bed. He knew he was experiencing what all the doctors said was a period of adjustment but it was still hard dealing with all the questions. He stepped away from the mirror and went to finish getting ready for bed. He had time the worlds were rebuilding, even mars that had been restored by Professor Algernon. He had more than enough time to get through this identity crisis. He just needed a bit more time to adjust.

Notes: This is a rewrite of a fic I originally uploaded under Glasswolf. This is a substantial rewrite. I originally planned to just tweak it but as I got started ideas came to me. The original was uploaded to my glasswolf account on 05/05/2008. I have taken it down from there but the original version remains on my past work journal. The original version was 824 words this new version is 893 words.

Pairings: Mention of Past Danny/Sam and current Danny/Valerie.

In Retrospect

In retrospect he sometimes wished he could have saved the world without revealing his identity. At first things had been great he was a hero to everyone at school and his family finally knew the truth. Of course once the newness wore off things became a lot tougher and he began experiencing the downside of fame. His public identity meant that everyone knew where to find him from the guys in white to over eager fans wanting something form him. After that he'd been unable to have a life of his own. In many ways Danny Phenton’s life ended as Danny Phantom’s life began.

The hardest outcome to deal with was the gulf that had grown between him and Sam. They’d just gotten together and all too soon were torn apart by the demands his schedule placed on him. The fact that Sam began to use her fame as Danny’s girlfriend to campaign for causes she believed in hadn’t helped matters. It had led to fights after he’d been ambushed by reporters asking if he supported some of her more radical causes. He could still remember the fight when he’d after a bad day and difficult battle had been less than diplomatic in his answer about her crusade to have a city wide week without meat. That moment in many ways had been the beginning of the end of their relationship and damaged their friendship in a way that it still hadn’t really recovered from.

He glanced over the newspaper that had started his musings. Sam a star activist had recently gotten married to a fellow activist named Dean and the two for their honey moon had gotten arrested protesting a company that was trying to clear cut a section of the rainforest.

"You should have gone to the wedding," a voice said behind him. "We could have handled things here." He turned to see his wife Valerie standing on the other side of his desk. “You could have easily found the time if you weren’t being petty and vindictive.”

His parents had founded a semi official ghost hunting service with the local government and he had been one of the first recruits. Danielle and Valerie had both followed him into the program and over time Valerie had gotten over her mistrust of him and a few years ago they’d resumed their relationship form high school.

"I didn't particularly want to go," he said which in all honest was true. "Besides she didn't come to our wedding she had a protest to go to." He knew He knew he was being immature but he’d been extremely hurt that Sam had missed his wedding. "What's this?"

"The final report on that haunted parade float," she seemed tired. "My shift's over so I'm heading home." He nodded, "I still say you should call Sam and apologize for missing her wedding." She smiled at him. "I'll see you at home don't be to long."

"I won't," he said watching her go and wondering if Danielle would pop into the office before her shift. He knew that Danielle was on his side but his younger sister was also immature and tended to take things personally.

He could still remember Tucker’s clear bewilderment when his parents had adopted Danielle when they finally learned about her. Of course thinking about his best friend reminded him that Tucker agreed with Valerie that he needed to call Sam and appologize for missing her wedding. That alone gave him pause since the two rarely agreed on anything and when they did they were usually right and he was wrong.

He knew it was a bit petty to have blown Sam off just because part of him was still ticked that she'd skipped out on his wedding. She'd apologized afterwards though and he shouldn’t have been surprised. It reminded him a lot of the bad times in their relationship. He had eventually realized that they would have never lasted. Sam was determined to save the world in her own way and they just drifted apart. He could respect most of her ideals but he couldn’t live in her world and she could never accept that he couldn’t use his power and fame the way she needed him too.

The worst part was he wasn’t sure they were still even friends anymore. He could count on one hand the number of times they’d seen each other over the last few months and he knew Tucker still spoke with Sam regularly despite being the president of a multi billion dollar tech company. They could put aside their issues and still be friends so why couldn’t he and Sam.

He decided to apologize and picked up the phone. "Hello this is Sam and Dean we aren't available at the moment as we are saving the world leave a message at the tone." Her voice said cheerfully. He put the phone down he'd try again another time as he didn't want to say he was sorry on an answering machine.

He would head home talk to Valerie about things and maybe give Tucker a call. He would see if Tucker could help him get the three of them together so he could say he was sorry in person. He hoped they could begin to patch up their mangled friendship because there were times he missed his best friend.

The End..

I never cared for the Danny/Sam relationship and see it ending badly very easily. The Sam Dean thing was unintentional in the original version and I nearly changed the name of the OC that was Sam’s husband but I decided to leave it in as a throw back to the original fic.

Warnings: Mentions of a volatile miscarriage and emergency surgery, angst

Unfair

As he sat in the hospital waiting for any word about Sam’s condition he kept replaying the moment when she’d woken him up. He could still hear her screaming as she grabbed her belly in pain. He had no doubt the baby was gone there had been so much blood staining the bed that it was impossible their unborn child had survived.

He was grateful for his powers because no ambulance could have gotten her to the hospital as quick as he did. That was a few hours ago and he still hadn’t been told anything. “Danny,” he heard and saw his sister, her husband and kids rushing toward him. He couldn’t speak so he just held on as she pulled him into a tight hug. When she finally released him he almost held on tighter but forced himself to let go. “Any word?”

"I don't know how she's doing they rushed her into emergency surgery," he said fighting to keep his voice level. "There was so much blood, it got everywhere" He never had to deal with blood while he was fighting ghosts. He still felt covered in it despite the hospital scrubs he was wearing after cleaning up in a bathroom. "I think the baby is gone Jazz." He couldn't take it just a week before they'd learned they were going to be parents and now his wife might not even live through the night he excused himself to the bathroom and stared into the mirror over the sink.

"Danny," A shaky voice said from behind him and he turned to see Tucker entering the room carrying the clothes he’d asked him for. He could see the horror in Tucker’s face and knew his friend had seen the bed and all the blood. “I brought you your clothes.” He took them unable to say anything to his friend who looked unsure of what to do. “Do you want me to stay or go wait outside with Jazz and the rest of your family.”

“I just need to be alone,” He said and saw Tucker nod. “Please keep watch for m parents and Danielle.” He then faltered. “And if the Doctor comes with news come get me.” He saw Tucker nod and watched his friend go. He changed into his own clothes and then sat down on one of the toilet lids as a horrifying thought hit him. Sam could die and for all his years of fighting ghost he still had no idea what happened after death. He'd met ghosts who may have been alive once but he didn't know if everyone who died became ghosts or just some of them.

Even if Sam died and became a ghost the odds where he'd never find her as the ghost zone was so vast it seemed to go on forever. "Danny the doctor is here and he has some news." Tucker called saving him from the horror of thinking about Sam as a ghost. He was out of the bathroom like a shot actually passing through Tucker.

"How is she?" He spit out even as she slid to a stop in front of the tired looking doctor. "Is she going to be all right?" He felt Jazz's hand on his arm urging him to be quiet and let the doctor speak.

"She's in critical condition and lucky to be alive." The doctor said after a moment. "We had to perform an emergency hysterectomy," he looked down. "There were two many tears in her uterus to repair it was safer to take the entire organ out." The Doctor looked extremely uncomfortable as he looked over at him. "I'm not sure what caused it but it's as if a small bomb went off inside her there was this unusual green material inside the uterine lining."

He could only think of one thing the green material could be and even though he dreaded it he had to ask. "Did it look like this doctor?" He summoned a bit of ectoplasm and knew the minute he saw the doctor's shocked look of horror. "It's my fault this happened because of what I am." He didn't wait for anyone to respond he took off flying through the roof of the hospital and out into the night air.

He flew erratically his mind racing with the horrifying thought that because of what he was Sam had nearly died and his unborn child had self destructed. He wished for the first time in a long time that he’d never become Danny Phantom at all. He realized then that he could make that happen with a little help. He heard a voice and saw Danielle flying towards him but he didn’t have time to talk to her now.

He needed to fix this and there was only one place he could do that. He reached out drawing on a power that he'd only recently gained to force open a portal to the ghost zone. He stepped through closing the portal behind him Danielle could have to go all the way to the Fenton Portal if she wanted to follow him. He set off immediately for Clockwork's home. He was prepared to have to force the issue but Clockwork just pointed toward the portal. "Hello Daniel, I've been expecting you," Clockwork said casually. "The portal is ready just step in and it will take you where you need to go?"

"No fight," he asked wondering why Clockwork wasn’t objecting to his plan to change history. He saw Clockwork turn away and look off into the distance. “Well why aren’t you trying to stop me?”

"I'm afraid if I tried to stop you that you'd just cause more trouble than I need," the ghost who controlled time said simply. "So step through the portal and I'll send you where you need to be." He was still wary but he needed to go now. He rushed through the portal planning to change history so he was never Danny Phantom.

He was shocked to find himself in a hospital room."Danny is that you?"He heard Sam say weakly.
He felt like screaming Clockwork hadn't sent him to the past he'd sent him into Sam's room at the hospital. "You've been gone for three days, I was worried." He saw then how small and fragile she looked surrounded by all those machines.

"I'm so sorry Sam," He said as he knelt down by her bed. "I'm so sorry." He gave up any thought of going back and trying to force Clockwork to send him to the past. He had to stay here with her he couldn't leave her alone again.

The End

Disclaimer: Transformers belong to Hasbro, and this version of continuity was done by Marvel comics so I’m not making any money off of this it’s just for the enjoyment of myself and possibly other fans.

Notes: This story is meant to be the last conversation Rodimus Prime and Spike had before Rodimus confronted Galvatron in the alternate future issue Rythyms of Darkness in the Marvel comics Generation 1 comic.

This story was originally put up on ff.net under the name Glasswolf on May 5th 2008 That copy has been taken down but the original version is sitting on my past work journal. This version has been rewritten somewhat going from originally 579 words to 969 by my word processer’s counter. You can see the original version HERE at my past work journal.

Last Conversation

He walked through the hills past the various tents and equipment bunkers that were dug into the mountain range that encircled the former location of Autobot City. He was amazed that Galvatron in his arrogance never thought they’d actually settle there of all places and instead was relying on his ultimatum to draw Rodimus out. The friendship that they had once was strained by too much horror that could be laid at the feet of the Transformer race but he still felt compelled to try talking him out of taking Galvatron up on his challenge.

He wasn’t surprised to finally find him sitting by the lake he used to take Daniel fishing at. “You really are going to do it aren’t you?” He asked as he approached the large Transformer. “You’re going to face Galvatron.”

“Yes,” he said. “I can’t put it off any longer Spike he’s threatened to a city each day until I face him.” Rodimus was still looking out at the lake. “This planet was so beautiful once not many places like this left anymore.” The leader of the Autobos sounded tired as he went on. “All our fault from the moment Optimus made the decision to crash the ark on this world our kind have brought you humans nothing but trouble.”

He couldn’t argue against that it was the bitter truth and he had the family losses to prove it. “You’ll die if you face him,” He said choosing a different tack. “Most powerful Prime ever or not you won’t win against him he’s too strong, too crazy and he’ll tear you apart.” He had one weapon left though he hated to use it. “Daniel wouldn’t want you to commit suicide.”

“I don’t intend to commit suicide,” Rodimus said, “there is a chance, admittedly a small one, that I can win despite the odds.” He smiled then. “I think I finally understand why Optimus didn’t shoot through me, why he let himself die rather than save himself at the cost of my life.” Rodmis looked back out over the lake. “It is all about the message we send with our actions.” Rodimus then struck a low blow. “Fort Max understood that’s why he threw you from his head just before he went down.”

“Don’t bring Max into this,” He said still hurting from the loss. The loss of Max still hurt and a part of him would always be missing. Rodimus who’d lost his own binary bonded partner years ago should have known not to go there. “Even if by some miracle you win the Decepticons will shoot you down to avenge their leader.” He knew that some of the Decepticons would privately be celebrating Galvatron’s loss but they’d still killed Rodimus.

“I know but it has to be this way Spike,” Rodimus said with a sad smile. “He will act on his threat to destroy a city a day until I face him and win or lose at least I can stop that.” He should have known Rodimus was sacrificing himself for such a stupid noble reason.

“He’s a lunatic Rodimus he won’t stop killing humans or destroying cities just because you face him,” He said and he knew that Rodimus knew that. “If you die then the rebellion is finished there is no way we can win without you.”

“You can win without me, but you’ll never win with me if I let this go on.” Rodimus sounded absolutely certain. “What example am I setting if I turn a blind eye to the deaths of millions, how long before the Autobots who follow me decide to flee Earth and start over some where else?” He had always feared that out come. “It is only a matter of time unless an example is set that we don’t give in, don’t take the easy way out, we fight even when it might cost us our lives.” He sounded a great deal like Optimus then. “This is the only way Spike even if I die my sacrifice will keep the Autobots here keep them fighting and if they ever loose their courage remind them that this is our fault.” He looked down at him then. “Optimus and I taught you how to fight them so keep fighting them no matter how long it takes and I have faith that some day you will win.”

“I’m not going to be able to talk you out of this am I?” He asked and in response Rodimus just shook his head. “This is crazy Rodimus but I guess I have to let you do this.” He could stop him easily enough there were Autobots who would die to stop him if they realized he was really going through with it. “Will you tell the others or will you just go?”

“I’ll just go,” Rodimus said shaking his head. “Some of them would try to stop me by force if they knew I’m surprised your the only one that figured it out.” He wasn’t the Autobots were so tired of fighting and the human resistence thought Rodimus was going to turn tail and run leaving them to their fate. “I can’t live up to Optimus, but I can do this for your people.”

He wanted to tell him that he was wrong that he did live up to Optimus but his friend wouldn’t listen. “If you don’t mind I’ll sit here with you until you leave.” There was so much that could never be said now but he could make sure his friend wasn’t alone before he went off to face Galvatron.

“Thank you Spike,” Rodimus said. “I’d like that.” He watched as Rodimus turned to look back out at the lake. He found himself hoping and praying that despite the odds Rodimus would come out on top and Galvatron would be gone.

The End.

Of course if you read the issue you know Rodimus lost.
