The Next Generation

He walked through the gardens of Ossus on his way to inform Valin Kienaan the council member in charge of assigning the first apprentices to the newly minted Knights that he’d received and approved of his choices for the first padawans for the next batch of Knights to take the trials. It had been decades since he’d contradicted his human friend’s choice but his fellow council member still asked his approval. “Excuse me Master B’nar,” the young Chironian Padawan Errol said sounding out of breath after nearly running into him. He stepped aside and watched the Centauriform padawan racing off when he felt a stirring in the force that made him turn and follow after him.

“Wait Padawan Errol why are you in such a hurray?” He asked and saw the Padawan slow down clearly nervous. He knew that most of the younger students thought as a Neti he was slower than the average sentient but he could have more than kept up with the horse legged padawan.

“Master Lasek sent me to find his son and tell him that his Aunts and Uncles have stopped by on their way back to Zeltros to let him meet his new cousins and one new Uncle.” The Padawan said. “But he’s not in any of his normal places and Mak said he was in the blue fountain gardens with Tej Elsin.” He found that a bit shocking he wasn’t away that Kale or Mak knew the young Mashi Horansi padawan to be.

“I will go there with you feel free to speed up.” He said increasing his own speed. He knew it shouldn’t surprise him Mak Reyale was the only other Horansi among the Jedi so it should have been likely that Tej would be familiar with him but he had never heard of him spending anytime with Mak and certainly not with Kale Lasek. As he followed along with the confused looking Errol he thought about what he knew of Kale Lasek. He was very familiar with the boy’s adoptive mother as she helped with training the younglings but he was not as familiar with the boy. He knew that he tended to attract strays as his mother said first becoming fast friends with Mak Reyale when the young Treka Horansi joined the Jedi after being freed from slavers and then along with Mak embracing the troubled Swa Lu. He allowed himself a moment of sadness at her passing and a moment of joy at how she had died a true Jedi and transformed into the force. He was proud of how all the survivors of that training camp had done sense then.

He also recalled Kale had attracted yet another stray the former Imperial Apprentice Rath Sho whom they’d had to send to the Paladins for his own safety. They arrived and he over heard what was clearly the Horansi language being spoken back and fourth. He paused briefly and realized Kale was teaching the young Padawan how to speak his own language. He wondered how the Jedi had missed that the padawan did not know his own language. He felt foolish as he recalled how the padawan had come to them delivered by Kasa Horansi guards as an infant with a note saying his parents had seen a vision of him as a jedi so he was to be given to them.

He watched as Errol interrupted them and passed on the message. He couldn’t help but smile as Kale turned back and asked Tej if he wanted to come with him and keep practicing on the way. “I will practice with him.” He said speaking up. He saw them both start not aware of his presence but Kale recovered quickly and bowing took his leave. “Tell me Tej how did you come to be learning your language from Kale Lasek?”

“I over heard him talking with the only other Horansi here on Ossus and asked if he’d teach me.” Tej said sounding nervous as he bowed his glossy black coated feline head. “I didn’t want to admit to anyone that I didn’t even know my people’s language and I’ll be a padawan soon what if I met other Horansi in the galaxy.” He was bothered by the fact the Jedi had never caught on. “He’s been teaching me in his spare time and when he can’t Mak Reyale fills in.”

He sat with the boy then and helped him practice for a while impressed with the progress the boy had made in just a few days. The force assisted with learning but it still took a good teacher to help someone learn an alien language. “That is enough for now Tej go to your other classes and tell Kale next time you see him that he is a good teacher.” The padawan nodded and headed away. He pulled out the datapad with Valin’s choices and looked to see who Kale was to train once he passed his trials. He recognized the Omwatti boy that had been chosen he was a good fit for most beginners but he only hesitated a moment before changing him for Tej. He wasn’t sure why but he felt it was the right thing to do.

He made his way back to Valin’s rooms and found his former student now fellow council member looked agitated. “Appologies my friend something unexpected came up,” he said bowing his head and Valin quickly accepted his appology. “I approve of all of your choices except for one I have decided that Kale Lasek will have Tej Elsin as a padawan when he completes his trials.”

He could tell Valin was shocked by that and so he wasn’t surprised when his friend asked, “If I may master B’nar why have you made that switch?” He thought for a moment of how to explain to Valin when it came to him.

“Tell me Valin did you know that Tej has never been taught the Horansi language,” He saw Valin looked shocked and immediately check the records. “I am disappointed in that over sight even though I understand how it happened.” He could tell Valin was even more annoyed than he was over it. “For the last few weeks Kale Lasek and Mak Reyale have been teaching the boy after he asked Kale.” He could tell that Valin was still confused. “My friend think of what they have been through the training camp, their friend dying and in Kale’s case his lover of a few weeks being sent away.” He saw Valin frown as his friend preferred to avoid attachments. “And yet even with the trials coming up they are still in their spare time teaching a boy his language something we have failed to do I believe that speaks well for the next generation of Jedi.”

“I can understand that but perhaps Mak Reyale would make a better choice for the boy’s master,” Valin said calmly. “He is also a Horansi after all and it might help the boy fit in better with a master of his own species.” He knew Valin was simply offering another option but he wasn’t thinking it threw.

“Normally yes but the Horansi are so governed by caste that it might cause problems if Mak was his teacher and they ended up running into other Horansi.” He believed Mak Reyale could deal with it but he didn’t want a young Padawan having to watch his master be treated like an inferior while he was lauded as a mystic.

“I had forgotten that,” Valin said. “Very well Master B’nar if Kale Lasek passes the trials Tej will be his apprentice.” He felt a certainty in the force that all of the survivors from that camp would pass their trails and that they and the next generation they trained would be important.

Teacher Knows Best

“We need to stop this guy ghost boy,” Valerie said clearly agitated. He didn’t blame her for that in the past two nights there had been more than a dozen attacks on students that had terrified them and resulted in a few broken bones. He normally wouldn’t be that put out by Dash getting his leg broken but the fact the attacks were getting more violent only made things worse. “Hey are you even listening to me.”

“I’m listening I’m just trying to think of what ghost it could be,” he didn’t recognize it from the description and at first he’d thought it was Mr. Lancer his ghost seed finally emerging but when he’d stopped by his house after the first attack he’d found him in bed as a human.

“My police scanner is picking up an attack come on.” Valerie said taking off. He was surprised she’d found him last night and insisted they work together to catch this ghost. Their truce had ended after the ghost seed ghost stopped appearing. As they were closing in on the site of the attack he sensed a ghost seconds before they were blasted by a ghost ray.

“So this is why you were sleeping through my class Ms. Gray that is very disappointing.” A clocked figure said lowering down. “And Mr. Phantom not realizing that I could turn back human at will is very disappointing.” He said pulling back his hood to reveal a red eyed blue Mr. Lancer. “I think I will have to punish you both for being such terrible students.”

“You didn’t know they could do that?” Valerie said accusingly. He hadn’t but to be fair none of the others had either. “Just sit back Ghost boy I’ll handle him.” She shot forward and was hit hard sending her flying back.

“Be careful he’s stronger than the other seed ghost.” He was hit himself then and it hurt a lot. He didn’t think this ghost Lancer was as strong as the seed Vlad but he was definitely more powerful than any of the others. He hit back a lot harder sending the Ghost lancer into a dumpster.

“Mother Fucker that hurt,” Ghost lancer said popping out. He and Valerie were so stunned that they froze and the ghost hit them with his ghost rays again even harder than last time. “Surprised I don’t censor myself like the fool I’m inside?” He asked with a sneer. “I knew you little brats were stupid but come on do you really think he does that for any reason other than to keep from swearing in front of you little bastards.”

The blast they’d received let him get over his stupor and he returned the favor putting a bit more force than he’d normally use into it. He saw real fear in the Lancer ghost then. “Surrender you can’t beat us if we don’t hold back and after Sunrise we’ll send you to the ghost zone where you belong.”

“No thanks after sunrise I’ll have all the leverage I need thanks to my spineless human self.” The ghost Lancer took off into the sky flying away. He looked over at Valerie who nodded and they took off after him.

“Not long till sunrise,” She said looking at the lightening sky. He hadn’t even realized how long they’d been looking. “We might not catch him and if that happens what do we do?” He was surprised she was asking for his help but looking at how far ahead the Lancer ghost was he could see why.

“I have an idea here take the thermos,” He threw her the thermos and then concentrated on splitting himself. He’d been practicing while Sam was at school and had this complete down now. He heard her gasp when suddenly there were two of him. “I’ll stay in visible and leave my double here with you.” He began to fade out as he heard his double finishing his statement.

“If he takes the real Mr. Lancer hostage the real me will get him out of the way and then you can suck him up with the thermos.” His double said as he dove down still invisible to fly lower. He was glad he’d been practicing as they failed to catch up with the ghost Lancer in time.

He watched as the real Mr. Lancer hit the ground and then looked up at his ghost double in shock. “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants what’s going on?” He yelled and he shot forward and grabbed him turning him intangible before the ghost Lancer could act. He heard the yell as the ghost lancer was sucked into the thermos. He heard a similar yell seconds later as his ghost double was sucked into the thermos.

“What are you doing,” He said as he revealed himself and dodged a second blast from the thermos. “You are trying to catch me in there?” He dodged again and realized he should have seen this coming Valerie had been way to friendly.

“I can handle whatever else happens later its time for you to go back to the ghost zone where you belong.” She said so he aimed a blast at her board. He was pleasantly surprised when she dropped the Thermos which he grabbed and flew off with. He flew into a nearby building and down threw the floors into the ground. He came up in an alley and stared at the thermos. He could feel his double inside there but he couldn’t figure out how to make him disappear while he was in there.

He sighed and hit the release button since there was only one option. As the ghost Lancer and his double appeared he made the double vanish and then took off after the fleeing Lancer ghost. He was surprised when Lancer smashed into a red ecto shield. “Just lending a hand Daniel.” Vlad said lowering down. He sucked up the lancer ghost and then turned toward his arch enemy. “Don’t look at me like that I though you’d be grateful for the help that one was dangerous.”

“Thanks for you help,” He said and then flew off he wasn’t surprised to see Vlad following after him. “Is there a reason your following me?” He wasn’t surprised Vlad had his powers back but he hadn’t seen him since the two copy Vlads merged.

“I saw what you did back there and I thought I’d offer to teach you even more tricks your learning so much faster than the original Danny did.” Vlad was smiling then. “I could be a great help to you in developing your ghost powers and improving your abilities even more son.”

“So the real Danny won’t have anything to do with you so your after me now?” He asked annoyed. “Stay away from me Vlad I’m not interested.” He expected Vlad to get angry but instead Vlad just laughed and flew off. He wondered why the other man hadn’t angrily attacked him like normal and that made him wary. He flew off to return the Lancer ghost to the ghost zone and then to head back to Sam’s to get some rest.

The End.

His Mother’s visit

The Empire was at war and he was sitting in his great grandmothers receiving room with her, his mother, his uncle and two Imperial Knights. The goat legged with horse hooves horned alien who’s species escaped him that had been standing guard off and on the last few days and his mother’s Borneck body guard Valery Teff. He was very familiar with the pale yellow skinned woman though she always kept a respectable distance from and refused to interact as equals with royalty. “Tor, your grandmother tells me that your staying in my old room?” His mother said once again reminding him of the injustice of his house arrest while the Empire was fighting a war. “I studied the history of it extensively I should go tell you where everything in there came from.” He knew his mother’s passion for the Empire’s history was the only thing his great grandmother liked about her. Her reputation as being flighty and naive meant that after his father’s death his great grandmother had taken an interest in him and his brother. “We can go right now Galen, Grandmother why don’t we all go?”

“I need to talk to Galen alone,” His great grandmother said with a commanding tone. “Just take your body guard she can watch out for any episodes Tor might have.” It took a lot not to snort at the lie they’d told to keep anyone from believing him that he was having episodes where he’d rant about untrue things and get violent.

“No, take Janos, he is better able to spot the beginning of those episodes,” his Uncle Galen said quickly. He saw his uncle’s look and knew what it really meant. His uncle wasn’t sure Valery would stop him from telling his mother but his hand chosen guard to watch over him and his grandmother would.

“That’s fine come on Tor,” His mother said cheerfully and as he and the Imperial baby sitter followed she began to talk about the history of the mansion that his grandmother lived in. He wasn’t even paying attention by the time they reached the room he was in. “Janos guard the door Tor, we don’t have much time so please no questions until I’m finished.” His mother said shocking him into alertness.

She walked over to an antique mural of an ancient battle on the wall. “Watch closely Tor,” she said motioning him over. She began to push spots on the mural and the figures lit up and the mural slid down to reveal a massive crawl space. “I found this as a teenager one of our ancestors built it secretly you can hide stuff from Galen and the Moff’s search teams here.”

“You know the truth?” He said and she nodded. He started to ask again but then he remembered what she had asked him so he quieted down and waited. She walked over to the guard who handed her a bag that he’d been carrying hidden somewhere on his person.

“This is the most important thing Janos is the only guard you can completely trust.” His mother said surprising him. “He like me is part of an organization that transcends borders and we will be doing everything in our power to end this war no matter what it takes.” She looked sad. “I never expected to be telling you about all this in such a hurray but we can’t stay too long.” She pulled a holocron out of the bag then. “This comes to you threw Jennica Maral your brother’s new body guard.” He was staring in shock. “She and all the others aside form Cadets Quest and Berus took the deal after being warned by the Jedi Seer Tasha Baldour that they would be killed if they didn’t.” So they had known that’s why they had seemed to dread heading to Bastion. “She told them what assignments to take to help Master Sa’vin save the Empire from itself.” He was still stunned that he hadn’t been told.

“I know it seems strange that you weren’t told but according to Maral someone had to object and only you and your master wouldn’t be killed.” He supposed he could understand that though he hated the thought of the Empire killing for its secret. “When Master Sa’vin contacts you and your great grandmother keep quiet about my organization only Master Sa’vin knows about us and he agrees with me that your great grandmother can never know she would not accept outside help.” He could understand that his great grandmother placed the honor of the Empire above all other things. “There are a few more things in the bag you’ll need a tool kit and a focusing crystal to start work on a new light saber and a copy of your father’s holo journal I gave one to your brother before they were shipped out.” His mother said sounding tired. “I probably won’t be able to see you in person again since Galen and the Moffs are having us shipped all over the place I’ll try to send word to you threw Janos and when the time is right he’ll help you escape and meet up with your half brother who is also in our organization.”

“Half brother?” He asked completely shocked. “You mean the one no one ever talks about who failed as Imperial Knight and ran off to be a Bounty Hunter?” He had asked questions when he was little only to be told by his older relatives not to ask.

“That isn’t what happened Galen ran him out of the Imperial Knights because he hated your father but couldn’t bring himself to take things out on blood family members.” His mother said tiredly. “There are Jedi and supposedly deceased Imperial Knights in our organization and they completed his training I wish I had time to give you all the details but if we don’t head back soon Galen may get suspicious.” He wanted to know more but he understood. “Just remember I love you and your brothers and no matter what happens I will get you out of here and back free again.” His mother said giving him a quick hug and then raising the mural back to hide what she’d given him. “Let’s go, Janos take care of my son.”

“I will,” The Imperial guard said with a bow. “You have my word as a Paladin.” He said and then as they walked back down the hall his mother began to play the part of the cheerful historian again. He wondered how little he actually knew about his own mother as he followed her back. He hated to admit it but he’d accepted the popular belief that there wasn’t much to her just like everyone else.

The Secret of the Seeds

“I am so glad the two of you could join me,” the ghost hunter said sitting across from them. She was tied to the chair and based on Tucker’s grunts of exertion so was he a quick glance confirmed it. “Star, and Kwan think you so much for bringing them to me.” She looked over at the ghost who were smiling brightly as they headed out through the window. “Sam and Tucker you may call me Mr. X.”

“Why did you kidnap us?” She demanded angry and hoping that Ghost Danny noticed she didn’t get home on time and came to find them. She was also angry that she’d been over shadowed by Star and still felt dirty and air headed.

“I brought you here so that the three of us could discuss something important.” He said as he pushed a button and an image of what looked like Amity Park floating in the ghost zone appeared on a screen behind him. “Now that all the un-important ghost seeds have popped and the ghost have been rounded up I feel safe telling you that something has gone wrong with my plans.”

“Oh really what could it be the Vlad Copy eating the other Vlad copy to become a super ghost,” She said angrily. “Or how about virtually the entire city now having ghost copies in the ghost zone.”

“Oh no both of those were expected,” He said and she guessed that underneath that mask he must be smiling. He just sounded so smug. “No you see the problem is Danny was supposed to be the first ghost seed copy to pop not Dani.” He brought up an image of Danny, Vlad and Dani. “Danny the one with the greatest potential power was supposed to pop first and then the clone with lesser potential.” He then brought up Vlad. “Masters who had already reached his full potential was supposed to be last and not show up until Danny had his powers back.”

“So what went wrong,” She said and saw Tucker staring at her. “He’s got us here so we might as well ask.” She was trying to keep him talking to give Ghost Danny or Dani time to find them. “How did you screw it up?”

“I underestimated the repressed feelings of a teenage male.” Mr. X said with a frown. “Three factors affect the growth rate of my seeds, the amount of ecto energy the person is exposed to regularly or generates in the case of the hybrids.” Mr. X seemed lost in thought as he continued. “The complexity of the ghost animal that I made the seed from.” She couldn’t help but be horrified by that statement “And finally their hidden desires, fears and anything else they are repressing.” She was still horrified by the idea of ghost animals being slaughtered to make those seeds that she almost missed it as he went on. “Danny is repressing far more than I ever thought possible and it looks like the ghost that emerges from him may be very dangerous.”

She didn’t believe for a moment Danny could ever produce something dangerous so instead she focused on her moral out rage. “How dare you make your seeds out of ghost animals sure they are already dead but that’s no reason to ruin their afterlife.”

“You actually think the ghost zone is the after life,” Mr. X said and burst out laughing. “My what a depressing little after life your little goth head accepts.” She just knew he had that smug smile under his mask again. “I’m afraid you are very much mistaken ghost some times wear the images and follow the desires of dead humans but they aren’t the souls of the departed.” He hit a button and the screen seemed to pulse with green light. “If there is such a thing as a soul and an after life it is most certainly not the ghost zone.”

“So where do ghost come from then?” Tucker said speaking up. She could hear his desire to know and was a bit curious herself plus it would keep him talking. She looked around for a clock to see if there was any way to tell how long they’d actually been here. She couldn’t find anything.

“There are several ways for a ghost to come into being but all ghost like everything natural to the ghost zone are made of ectoplasm.” He said pulling up a screen. “The most familiar way to human stories about ghost are the result of what I call ecoto-shades.” He showed an image of a woman surrounded bya green glow. “Ambient ectoplasm that drifts into this world from the ghost zone bonds to things and forms a shadow of them if you will.” He then showed the woman in a hospital bed. “When the object can no longer support them, death in the case of living things, the ecto-shade is immediately instinctually driven to head to the nearest ghost portal.” A faded version of the woman left the corpse and flew away. “If the portal is close enough you get a ghostly version that matches the original person almost perfeclty but the further way the portal is the more of the shape they loose along the way.” An image of the box ghost appeared on the screen. ‘Then they end up like this poor fool driven by one over riding compulsion that survived the trip.”

She glanced over at Tucker but he seemed to be focused on the screen. “Now another way a ghost can be created is when a location is hit by an ecto surge passing between two portals.” An image of the ghostly highschool where Sidney Poindexter exited appeared on the screen. “About fifty years ago a surge hit the highschool creating a sort of ghostly purgatory for perfect ghostly copies of the students and one cafeteria worker who escaped it when someone changed the menu.” She wasn’t surprised when the image of the Lunch lady appeared. “You should keep that in mind Sam ghost change over time so while Ghost Danny is identical to Danny Fenton’s ghost half he might end up very different after some time.” She ignored him trying to scare her.

“Any other ways a ghost can be born?” Tucker asked giving her a worried look. She knew he was still upset with her about ending up with Ghost Danny instead of real Danny. “I mean we’ve seen some freaky ghost that don’t seem to fit those methods.”

“Very good Tucker your as smart as I always thought you were,” Mr. X said sounding proud it was freaky. “Ecto-energy can also be influenced by ideas and over time the combined belief of many people results in mythological gods, legends and people showing up as a ghost.” He said showing images of Pandora, Vortex and Undergrowth.” He then brought up an image of the ghost versions of her parents only her ghost mom looked pregnant. “Ghost can also create each other either through the old fashioned having a baby way like the ghost versions of Sam’s parents are doing.” She could only stare in horror and shock. “Or through similar means to say Desiree.”

“Hold on Sam’s ghost parents are having a baby?” Tucker asked clearly freaked out. “But Ghost Danny only sent them into the ghost zone two weeks ago how can she be that pregnant by now?” She hadn’t even known when her parents ghost seeds had activated Ghost Danny had only told her after the fact since he said they were even freakier than her normal parents.

“Time in the ghost zone is relative and responds to the desires of its population on some level they want to try again with a second child so now she’s pregnant again.” Mr. X sounded smug again. “Don’t worry ghost and humans can’t have kids so whatever you get up to with Ghost Danny won’t result in kids.” He then shrugged. “Or the real Danny either since all hybrids are shooting blanks.” Before she or Tucker could respond to his crude remarks an alert sound came from somewhere. “Speaking of ghost lover boy he caught Kwan and Star and they sold me out so he’s on his way so I should finish up and give you my gifts.” He hit a button and a green glow surrounded the building a ghost shield.

“Now lets see as I’m sure Tucker there has figured out most of the ghost seeds have popped all except for the one in Danny which still worries me and the important ones.” He punched a button. “The ones in his parents, his sister, his best friends, his former dream girl, his most influential teacher, the bully who makes his life hell, and his cat woman Valerie.” The restraints on them were released. “Speaking of Valerie I think you can use these.” He said handing over packages. “They are copies of the suit Vlad gave her in yellow for you Tucker and Purple and black for you Sam.” He sounded friendly then. “They should allow you to protect yourself if I’m right and Danny’s seed turns bad.” He pointed toward the door. “Back up if you would otherwise you’ll be joining me in the ghost zone.” Tucker quickly backed up and she did the same from the ceiling a ghost portal lowered over him and his stuff leaving them alone.

She noticed the ghost shield fading and seconds later Ghost Danny shot inside. “Sam are you alright?” He asked as he landed. She just grabbed him dropping the box Mr. X had given her. “Sam what’s the matter?”

“Just hold me I don’t want to talk about it.” She knew she’d have to soon but for now she just wanted to forget the things he’d said. She knew she had to be making Tucker uncomfortable but she didn’t care right now.

Necessity of Exile

“I am sorry to ask to see you on such short notice,” the Mrlssti Jedi master said. He was surprised to find himself and Kale asked to meet with the a member of the Jedi council. “However, the Empire is about to file a formal petition asking the Alliance to send you back as a deserter.” The master said looking at him. He felt Kale sitting beside him tense up. “The Jedi will not do that but at the same time we cannot afford to sour relations with the Alliance at this critical time.”

“Then Master Knesos should Rath and I leave Ossus,” Kale said and he was torn on how to react. “At least until the Jedi find the proof to prove the Empire is lying about what happened at the training camp.” He felt better when it became clear Kale just meant a temporary departure.

“Rath Sho must leave but you must stay Kale.” The old master said and then quickly added. “Rath, Kale are the two of you familiar with the Moff Banbl Mnaa and the Mad Arkanian incident.” He knew the story so he nodded but Kale clearly didn’t. “Moff Banbl Mnaa was a high ranking Moff and his sister was the reigning Empress around 1200 years ago.” He glanced over at Kale to see him listening intently. “He was also the head of Black Sun and heavily involved in a slave movement that supposedly sold slaves from lost colonies of extinct and nearly extinct species.”

The Jedi master pulled out a small holo emitter. “They turned out to be genetically engineered fakes the Red Sith for instance were just genetically engineered Myke’s who had their ancient sith ancestry enhanced and the Neti were just Zelosian’s who had their plant attributes greatly increased.” The Jedi Master seemed lost in thought as the Emitter showed the red Sith then a myke then the Neti who looked like humanoid trees and a Zelosian. “The Melodies they claimed were the furthest from the true species being now a polymorphic human off shoot instead of a humanoid that transitioned at different life stages.” Two more images appeared a human which then morphed to have a single fish tail where the lower legs used to be. “Only the Theelin and Kwa subjects could really be called an accurate reaction because..” He stopped and looked at Kale.

“Please Master, what does this have to do with Rath leaving?” Kale asked and he could detect the note of nervousness in Kales voice. He found it strange that he wasn’t bothered he felt secure that whatever this was about it would make sense but Kale was clearly a bit agitated.

“It is important Padawan Lasek trust me,” the avian master said. “They were the creations of Bol Durgachia the so called Mad Arkanian who just a few decades earlier had illegally altered a primitive human people into three mutated subspecies.” The holo emiter showed an image of a three eyed human, a four armed human and a human covered in bony spikes. “The Jedi discovered the source of all this trouble but the Empress refused to believe her brother could be a part of this and convinced her husband to refuse to allow the GA or the Jedi to investigate.” An image of a small furry sentient with a long tail appeared on the holo then. “A group of Jedi 175 in total quit the order and invaded the Moff’s territory exposing him and the mad Arkanian.” He knew the story the response to this event was the Empire closing its’ borders to the Jedi and expanding the Imperial Knights to police the Empire instead of just serving the Emperor. “Unfortunately the Moff and the Arkanian died complicating an already delicate political situation; the exiles led by their leader a Lurmen Jedi master nicknamed Arcady disappeared even as the Galactic Alliance relocated these new genetically engineered species to several potential home worlds.” The old Avian’s eyes lit up then. “The group which came to be known as Arcady’s Paladins still exist and it is to them we will send you Rath.”

“Okay that makes sense I guess,” Kale said looking over at him. “But why can’t I go with Rath to these Paladins until....” Kale stopped talking when he put his hand on his shoulder he wanted the old master to continue and Kale relaxed.

“The Paladins operate in secret respecting no boarders they go where they are needed they are not all even force sensitive some are Jedi and some are current and former imperial knights.” The old master said. “You cannot go Kale because they cannot survive without secrecy and only the Jedi council and a few Knights know of them but if you disappear as well then Jedi involvement in his vanishing becomes much easier to see.” He could understand that even though he didn’t like it. “Besides the two you will be working together again very soon as Kale after your trials I believe you should take up the habit of being a Wandering knight like your mother and father before you.” He saw Kale smile but he didn’t understand.

“A wandering Knight is a Jedi who doesn’t stay on Ossus and take missions they just travel around the galaxy letting the force lead them and they often pick up non Jedi companions along the way.” Kale said as an explanation. “Both my parents were wandering Knights that’s how they met.”

“Yes,” the old master said with a smile. “Many often hire ships for transport and I’m sure the Paladins can set you up Rath with a transport ship cover story in the weeks Kale is hear taking his trials.” He glanced over at Kale who was smiling and he realized the old man had thought of nearly everything.

“What about how the Empire will use my disappearance.” He said deciding now was the time to speak up. “If I vanish they will use it to further their lies.” He saw Kale frown but he did not want to be a part of causing more bloodshed. “Would turning me over help prevent that?”

“It would not,” The old master said sadly. “Tasha Baldour’s visions have been disturbingly accurate and no other seer can see more than she has seen.” He sounded grim. “If we turn you over Hapes will accuse the Jedi of siding with the Empire, If we refuse the Empire will accuse us of siding with Hapes.” The old Master looked tired. “Your disappearance will cause the least strife and allow the Jedi to continue trying to mediate though you will have your name dragged through the mud by the Empire can you live with that?”

“I can.” He said and meant it. He knew that some Nagai woudn’t understand him being willing to put aside any considerations of personal honor. “When do I leave to join these Paladins?” He hoped he’d have some time to say good bye to Kale.

“The Empire will file their petition in two days time according to our sources and the ones who will take you to the Paladins will arrive early tomorrow morning.” The old master gave them a sympathetic look. “I suggest you take tonight to say your goodbyes for this parting as it will be a few weeks before you can see each other again.” The avian master began to leave the room when he turned back. “Kale you may tell your parents and Maks Reyal but tell no one else.”

“I didn’t think I’d be able to tell anyone.” Kale said and he sensed the truth of that. The old master looked as if he’d smile if his species could and turned and left chuckling to himself. “I never thought Master Kavi Knesos had a sense of humor he’s always so serious.” Kale turned back to him. “My parents wanted us to join them but if you want we can skip it?”

“No I quiet enjoy your parents and I want to be there when you tell them.” He said meaning it. He’d only see them a few times since getting to Ossus but Kale’s parents accepted him readily enough that he could see where Kale got his open mindedness. He was not looking forward to this separation but he took comfort in the fact it wasn’t forever.

True Power

She followed her ghost sense into the basement of Fenton works. She’d been sleeping in Jazz’s room the past three nights as the Plasmius ghost had turned up and warned them that Vlad’s seed had emerged and it had it in for Danny. He’d promised to keep him contained at night but none of them trusted the Plasmius copy. “Oh Ghost Danny its you,” She said as she saw him dragging a blond green skinned ghost toward the ghost portal.

“Let me go I’ve got to get back to my hobby.” The ghost said as he pulled her toward the door. “Come on I mean it is just harmless fun why are you being so...” She didn’t get to finish as she was shoved into the portal and he quickly reached up and hit the switch to close access.

He pulled the Thermos off its strap and loaded it into the return. “Thermos fill up before you got them all again?” She asked noticing how tired he looked. She would like to be out there helping bu she was the only one the real Danny would let stay in the house.

“Yeah I’ll go swap it with Valerie she should have hers full by now.” She was glad the other girl had agreed to the temporary truce with Ghost Danny to round up the ghost seed ghost that kept popping up. “Hopefully Ghost Star is the last one I’ll run into tonight since it is nearly sunrise.” Her ghost sense tripped then and she looked over at him. “Danny’s room.” He said and took off through the ceiling. She transformed and followed arriving to find Plasmius holding a struggling Danny and taking off through the wall. “After him.”

She was having trouble keeping up with them. She had noticed that Ghost Danny was getting stronger the longer he was around. “Here you go,” Vlad said loudly and then exploded as he was hit with a blast of Ectoplasm. She looked to see an Orange Vlad Plasmius with white hair and a color reversed costume lowering down.

“Another double how predictable.” He said looking at them. “So the real Danny Fenton, the copy and the clone all together for me to end.” She felt scared looking at his face there was something wrong about him. He split apart then the human Vlad dropping to the ground. “Sunrise at last, Masters your just in time to watch me kill them.”

“Get the real Danny out of here.” Ghost Danny said shooting past her. She hesitated a moment but then dove down to Danny who was standing watching. She saw him wince and she looked back. The Vlad seed ghost had Ghost Danny pinned against a wall.

She was torn between grabbing Danny like she was told or trying to help. “Use the wail its your only chance,” Danny yelled from behind her. She saw Ghost Danny take a deep breath and scream. She knew he hadn’t used it at all before now since he didn’t know how it would affect him without a human half. She was glad to see it still worked as the attack seemed to tear into the Vlad copy which was hurled backwards his costume now ripped and mangled into another wall. She looked back at Ghost Danny to see him collapsing onto the ground weakly. “That took everything he had but it was enough.” Danny said and she found herself shoved out of the way as he ran towards the downed Vlad copy.

She stared in shock as when he got closer Plasmius emerged from him and flew into the struggling to rise orange skinned ghost. Then suddenly Plasmius was screaming as his hair burst into orange flame. She flew forward and pulled the real Danny back to where Ghost Danny was struggling to get to his feet. “What’s happening?” She asked.

“Ghost cannibalism what Spectra did to your copy he’s doing it to the seed ghost.” Ghost Danny said weakly. “Get him out of here Dani I can’t do anything the wail took everything I had.” She looked back to see Plasmius had finished changing. He stood there now with his normal blue skin and the new orange flame for hair and smiled.

“So this is true power.” He said and turned toward where the human Vlad was trying to inch away. “Going some where Masters you should stay and watch its going to be killer.” He turned back toward them. “Now who should I kill fist.”

“Why did you do this?” Danny asked stepping in front of Ghost Danny. She realized he was trying to buy him time to try the wail again. “You can’t possibly think doing this will some how get you my mom can you?”

“I gave up on Maddie the moment I learned I was a copy it seemed foolish to hang onto his foolish desires.” Plasmius said pointing at Vlad who looked insulted and then afraid again. “No I just want real power and now thanks to all of you I have it and as long as I stay out of the ghost zone there is no one who can stop me.” He then smiled. “And now you all die before young ghost Daniel can summon up another of his delightful screams.” She panicked not sure what to do when suddenly a beam hit him and he screamed as he was pulled into him self.

“It came form over there,” Vlad said pointing and she took off trying to see who had helped them. She rounded the corner to find no one but there was a bazooka with a note on it laying there. She picked up the gun and note and looked around briefly before heading back. “So did you find our rescuer?”

“No they were gone but they left this gun and this note.” She opened the note. “It says the Observents will deal with him and is signed Mr. X.” She looked around and saw confusion on everyone’s face.

“That’s a Fenton bazooka.” Danny said as he almost reluctantly helped ghost Danny up. “Are you sure that Ghost Hunter is dead cause he used a Fenton Thermos once so he might have a copy of mom’s bazooka too.”

“He was in an explosion and we saw no trace of him afterwards so I guess he could be alive but why would he help us now since this whole mess is his fault?” Ghost Danny said weakly and then there were sirens in the distance. “Looks like the commotion didn’t go unnoticed we need to get out of here unless you want to be on the morning news in your Pajama’s with the former mayor and two ghosts.”

Part 2 of 2

She let herself into the attic after dinner looking forward to talking with her guest. He listened a lot more than the human Danny and seemed to appreciate her more. She was shocked to see the human Danny standing there. “What are you doing up here where’s Ghost Danny?” She asked in shock and he turned and smiled at her.

“I am Ghost Danny I finally got it right I can appear as a human again.” She walked up to him and touched his face it felt human. “I figured out how to do what that evil future version of me could do it tires me out but with practice I can probably manage it enough to get out of this attic some.”

“Oh that will probably help when you leave,” she said bringing up the thing she was dreading. She had gotten used to him being here and would miss him. He turned to look at her and she looked away. “Why can’t you stay you and Danny can share fighting ghost and going to school it will make things easier for both of you?”

“It wouldn’t work he doesn’t want me here and I don’t want to be here.” She was hurt by that statement and started to leave. “Wait Sam I don’t mean I don’t want to be around you I love you.” He blurted out and she froze turning back to him. “But that’s also the problem because he loves you too and I am just a copy after all.” He changed back to his ghost form rising up. “I can’t ask you out because it isn’t fair to him someday he’ll grow up and admit how he feels.” His eyes lit up then. “And it isn’t fair to me to sit there and watch it happen when it finally does.”

“What about me?” She asked getting angry. “Is it fair to me that I’m supposed to keep waiting for Danny to grow up or accept whatever decision you make about who I date?” She was really angry with him and for the first time actually wished he’d go. “Maybe I’m tired of waiting maybe if you’d ask I’d say yes.” She didn’t get to say anything else as he grabbed her and kissed it. She had to admit it was as romantic as any of those silly romance movies she pretended to hate with a fiery passion.

He then completely ruined it by pulling back, blushing and saying, “I shouldn’t have done that.” She considered slapping him but thought another kiss would bring the point home better. He was startled but gave in pretty quickly. Once they parted this time he looked at her and frowned. “Are you sure about this Danny isn’t going to take this well?”

“He’ll have to get over it,” she said calmly. “I’ve made my choice.” She ignored the small voice in the back of her head insisting that she hadn’t not really. “Now can you put the human skin back on I think I’d like to go out to a movie for a first date.”

House Guest
Part One of Two

He had been living in Sam’s attic for the last five days and was surprised to find out that Sam was right her parents never came up here. He glanced back at the mirror and began to concentrate preparing to try again. “Why do you keep doing that?” Green Dani as he’d taken to calling her said. “Why would you want to appear human again it is a waste of time?”

He’d been trying to figure out how some ghost could perfectly mimic a human form. He wanted to be able to walk around outside without being either mobbed as a hero or run in terror from as a ghost and he’d already explained all that to her. “Why are you hear again?” He asked letting some of his annoyance show.

“I’m waiting for the Fenton portal to be fixed so I can go where we ghost belong the Ghost Zone.” Green Dani said sticking her tongue out at him. “Unlike you I don’t want to pretend there is any place here for us.” He ignored her and tried again he knew it should be possible he’d seen ghost assume a replica of human form before. “Your wasting your time you aren’t strong enough to do that yet.” She said cheerfully. “Plasmius says you’ll never get it.”

“You’ve been talking with Plasmius?” He hadn’t seen the copy of Vlad’s ghost since he took off after he told him everything outside the crater that used to be the ghost hunters base. She nodded and he felt compelled to warn her. “Don’t trust him he’s dangerous.”

“I already know that I’ve got all the other Dani’s memories.” Green Dani said proudly. “I just know what I want better than she does.” He heard voices then and floated up to the ceiling in case he needed to duck out of the house. “That’s just Sam, Tucker and the other Danny on their way here Danny wants to tell you to stop following them at school.”

“I haven’t been following them at school.” He said looking over at her in annoyance. She just smiled and started to fly away so he grabbed her. “I think its time they met you.” He said keeping a grip. He knew she was smart enough not to try to get away she may have Dani’s memories but she was no where near as strong as her which had surprised him at first. He thought he was just as powerful as the real Danny’s ghost half.

“I’m telling you Danny it isn’t Ghost Danny,” Sam said as they came up into the attic. “I’ve already asked and he’s not the one following us around that Dani keeps sensing. He was glad that Dani’s ghost powers had returned over the last few days.

“No I’m not,” He said lowering down. “She is everyone meet Green Dani.” He said holding her out. He watched as she said hi and Tucker freaked out. He let her go then and floated down into a sitting position. He really did not like being around the real Danny and looking at him made it clear it was mutual.

“What’s she doing here?” Sam asked once Tucker got over his freak out. “I thought you said she’d taken off to find a home of her own?” She sounded jealous and it wasn’t lost on anyone which just made the entire situation worse.

“I’ve been hanging out here some times while I’m waiting for the Fenton Portal to be fixed so I can go to the ghost zone where I belong.” She said cheerfully. “I’ll get stronger if I go there otherwise I’ll always be a minor ghost.”

“The copy of Vlad hasn’t been hanging out in my attic too has he?” Sam asked in clear panic. He wasn’t surprised to see Tucker sharing the look of horror and Danny to look furious so he quickly shook his head no. “That’s good.”

“Where is he?” Danny asked still glaring at him darkly. He shrugged and pointed toward her. “Where is he then?” He wasn’t surprised that Green Dani just laughed and took off through the ceiling before he could grab her. “Aren’t you going after her?”

“What’s the point she won’t tell us anything she doesn’t want to and if we get in a fight I might hurt her.” He could see how thrown they were by that statement. “She’s not a very powerful ghost other than some weaker versions of Dani’s abilities she’s not much stronger than the Box Ghost.” He saw Danny get it but the other two were still a bit thrown. “I don’t think the ghost seeds produce very strong ghost so the real Vlad might not be as big a worry as we thought he would be.”

“That’s encouraging.” Tucker said cheerfully. “So once Vlad’s seed ghost is gone you’ll be moving on to the ghost zone or something?” He asked and he noticed Sam looking annoyed and Danny trying not to look pleased at the prospect.

“I’ll stick around until Danny there is free of his seed ghost and has his powers back but after that I’ll find somewhere else to live.” He could see how disappointed Sam was but he wasn’t sticking around it would just be two weird.

Part Two of Two

“You look really tired,” She said to Sam as the other girl arrived. She glanced down at Danny and saw he’d fallen back asleep. “Let me guess Tucker kept you up half the night worried he was pregnant with a ghost baby?” She said recalling Danny’s statement about that. She saw Tucker walking up behind her so she never found out if he’d kept Sam up as well.

She’d spent most of the night worried over the copy of her brother. She wasn’t sure how to think of him because he had all her brothers memories and looked just like her brother’s ghost self. She knew he came from Danny though and that was enough to make her want to help him.

“Here they come,” Tucker said pointing up wards and she saw the ghost copy of Danny Phantom flying downward holding the sleeping form of a young girl. The green skinned ghost version of her was no where to be seen. “So the other ghost is gone right?” She could understand Tucker’s fear but wished he’d have waited.

“She took off to find her own home shortly after she separated from Dani she seemed a lot calmer after that.” He sat the young girl down. “Hopefully her powers should come back soon.” He yawned then. “I need to go find somewhere to sleep.”

“You can come to my house,” Sam said speaking up before anyone else. “We have plenty of rooms that my folks never go into so you’ll be able to rest.” She glanced over at Tucker and then down at the sleeping Danny. She knew he wouldn’t like that when he heard about it. “Well he can’t stay here if Jack or Maddie find him there’ll be big trouble.” Sam said quickly. She looked over at Tucker hoping he’d volunteer his house but before he could the ghost Danny spoke up.

“I’ll go with her at least then you know where to find me if there’s trouble.” She noticed him looking at the sleeping Danny and knew he just wanted to get away from there. He picked up Sam and took off before anyone could say anything else.

“Danny is not going to like this,” Tucker said as he sat down on the stoop. “You tell him.” She would have rolled her eyes if she didn’t think it was childish. As if acting out some teen soap drama Danny chose that moment to wake up.

“So he’s already been here,” he said looking at Dani. “Where’s Sam?” Tucker immediately began playing with his PDA and looking away. Danny turned toward her and she just knew he wasn’t going to take this well.

“She left with Ghost Danny,” she said deciding on the name at the last minute. “He’s extremely tired so she’s going to let him sleep in one of her houses empty rooms.” She wasn’t surprised to see how obviously jealous he was. Fortunately before he could storm over there on some pretext and cause a mess Dani woke up.

“I’m back,” she said excitedly and hugged Danny. “I can’t believe I’m back here.” She guessed the girl had no idea how any of this had happened. She noticed that Danny sat back down with her. “Can we get something to eat I’m about to starve.” She hoped they’d find out exactly where the girl had been soon but it could wait.

Missing and Found
Part One of Two

She sighed as she began to head home. She wished Danny had let her know about the situation with Dani earlier instead of just him and his friend shifting her around. She could have helped them figure out something to tell their parents to keep her safe instead of him and his friends sneaking her in and out of their rooms. She still couldn’t believe the girl had up and vanished two nights ago and they had only just now told her. “Hey Jazz,” a familiar voice said and she spun to see Danny Phantom standing there.

“Danny you got your powers back this is wonderful.” She said giving him a quick hug. He pulled back and she could tell by his face she was wrong. “You’re his ghost half you escaped from the Ghost hunter?” She was still relieved but a bit uncomfortable having just hugged him.

“Yes and no,” he said sounding unsure. “I just really need to talk to someone about everything so I came to you.’ She was touched and a bit annoyed that Danny’s human half never seemed to come to her to talk about things.

“Sure let’s just sit over here,” She said leading him over to a set of steps. “I hate to ask but have you seen Dani she disappeared two nights ago and everyone is worried.” She could tell he was troubled but she had to check and see.

“I haven’t seen her but I think I know what’s going on.” He said sounding extremely tired. “I’m not actually Danny’s ghost half I’m a copy that was made when he ate what that hunter called a Ghost Seed.” She was confused but didn’t say anything as he went on. “He did the same thing to Dani and Vlad.” He looked grim. “He made us so the second ghost seed he fed them would work properly it creates a ghost that is someone’s secret desires made real.”

“So you think this ghost has kidnaped her?” She asked in fear at the thought that one was growing inside Danny right now. “We have to save her and get that seed out of Danny immediately.”

“Not kidnaped her more like taken her somewhere during the night,” he said tiredly. “He called it the Jekyll and Hyde stage it last for three nights then the ghost pops out like we did and Dani gets her powers back.” He seemed thoughtful. “He must have given Dani the seed first so next will be Vlad and then the real Danny.” She noticed that he gulped when he said real. “So hopefully Dani will show back up soon once her powers are back.” He looked away then. “Hopefully her secret desires aren’t dangerous.”

She felt slightly more relaxed because how dangerous could a twelve year old’s hidden desires be. “How did you escape?” She asked guessing he was reluctant to talk about it. “And do you have any idea why he’d implant these ghost seed things in those three?”

“Not just those three he claimed he had fed them to most of the town.” She felt a moment of panic and then forced herself to stay calm she could freak out over potentially having a ghost growing inside of her later he needed her now. “I don’t know why he did it and we probably won’t ever know because he blew himself up trying to kill Spectra after what she did to the Dani copy.” He looked absolutely crushed. She almost told him to stop but she thought he needed to say it. “She absorbed her and its my fault she tricked me and the Vlad copy into fighting the Hunter while she did it by freeing us from the tubes first.”

“Are you saying she’s dead?” She asked wondering how a ghost could die. He nodded and she felt sick. “Are you sure there isn’t anyway to reverse what Spectra did?” She didn’t care if she was a ghost copy she was still a living being sort of.

“I don’t think so even if she’s still alive and I hope not.” He said darkly. “We’ve both seen what a ghost who does what she did ends up like.” She must have looked confused because he frowned and said, “Do you remember that evil Danny from the future he did it to Vlad’s ghost half.” She couldn’t help but shudder at the memory of him. “Anyway you should get back home and tell Danny all of this.” He said standing up. “I’ll keep watch from a distance but I hope you’ll understand I don’t want to be around him.”

“I understand,”she said just imagining how hard it would be to deal with being a copy of someone. “Will you at least walk me home?” She hoped that spending more time around her would help him adjust to what had to be a terrible ordeal. He did and she noticed they were being stared at whenever they encountered people. “I guess walking with a ghost causes a bit of a scene.”

He froze then a breath of blue smoke appeared from his mouth. “There’s a ghost near by.” He floated up and looked around. “Dani is that you?” He called and emerging from an alley was a green skinned ghost girl.

“I just want a home but they are all empty.” The little girl said. “Why do you get a home and family and all I had was Vlad who used me it isn’t fair Danny I should have the nice family.” She fired a blast then that sent him across the street into a pile of trash.

“So much for a twelve year old’s secret desires not being dangerous.” He said as he got up and fired a blast back that sent her spinning. “I’ll keep her busy until sun rise and then bring her to you have a Fenton Thermos waiting.” He said as he flew forward and grabbed her carrying her skyward.

The Worst Crime

“Satisfied,” Her ally asked from behind her as she took in her new appearance in the mirror in her partner’s ghost world home. She ignored him and focused on the new white hair and black and white outfit complete with that stupid little logo. “Well you aren’t having second thoughts about committing the worst of all crimes are you?”

“Of course not after feeling how powerful I am now I’d gladly do it again if I could,” She declared looking back her ally the mysterious Mr. X who masqueraded as the ghost hunter she wished she knew if he was human or ghost but his suit prevented her form knowing some how. “I’m just a bit disappointed that I picked up so much of the little girl’s traits but I can fix these things eventually.” She glanced back at him. “Are you sure I can’t consume another ghost to gain even more power?”

“You could attempt it but it would destroy you,” Mr. X said from where he was sitting. “Added a third ghosts power template to your ecto-plasmic matrix would destabilize the entire thing be happy with what you have gained.”

“Oh I am and the future looks even brighter once I have that lovely ghostly wail of his,” she said just thinking of the power she’d heard whispered about in dread. “The ice powers will be something I can put to great effect as well.”

“You are a fool if you think you are assured those two powers my dear,” Mr. X said with a laugh. “My observations show the girl will never gain the ghostly wail that power is the boy’s province alone it is unique to him.” He then shrugged. “She and you both have the ghost sense so you should have the Cryokinetic powers someday but the wail will never be yours.”

“Why didn’t you tell me I’d have taken the boy instead of the girl.” She said angrily as she advanced on him. She had been counting on having that power in her future plans. She fired a beam at him but a ghost shield appeared blocking it.

“You’d have lost if you tried to consume the boy remember Spectra the strongest willed ghost wins and we both know the boy’s will is stronger than yours.” She had to admit he was probably right. “Besides you’ve gone from a weak barely level two ghost to a strong level four that would have taken you decades of stealing life energy.” He turned and looked at his screen. “You will also grow stronger over the years.”

“Level?” She asked curious how he defined the strength of ghost. She knew there were no levels in the ghost zone only the power you possessed and were willing to use. She had long known she wasn’t the strongest ghost it was why she’d turned to creating a energy draining shell in the first place.

“In my research I have identified Ten levels of ghost each level is a ten times stronger than the level above it.” He said with a shrug. “Most ghost are level ones only able to fly, disappear and become intangible around level two is when the specialized abilities kick in.” He brought up an image of Skulker. “Of course level does not correspond to how dangerous they are just their innate ghost powers this one for instance is only a weak level one ghost but thanks to his suit is far more dangerous than many level twos.”

“So that would make Pariah Dark the only level ten?” She was a bit disappointed to realize that she was still so far from the ghost king’s power level. She felt like she was unbeatable now and to learn she was so far from the top was disappointing.

“No, even with the ring of rage and the crown of fire he was only a Level 9 without them he was a level 8.” He said his voice shuddering. “The Level 10 ghost predate him and all other ghost they sleep in the deepest most ancient abysses of the ghost zone and if they ever awaken it will be the end of us all.”

“How powerful is the boy then?” She asked curious to see how the boy stacked up next to her new powers. “And how powerful was the girl did I just add her power to mine or was there any lost in our merger?”

“The girl was level three and like all merged ghost you arrive one level beyond the strongest of the two.” She looked over at the mirror again wondering if that was why so many of the girls features had come through she was stronger than her. “The boy on the other than is currently a low level four with one level five ability.” She turned to stare at him the boy was this powerful already. “How strong he will eventually become is anyone’s guess that’s why I allowed his clone to live by the way existing 24/7 as a ghost will speed up his development letting us see some of his potential.” She was furious she had thought she’d be far ahead of the boy but now she’d committed the worst crime for nothing. “Calm yourself Spectra you are far more powerful than he is while you, the boy and Plasmius are all level fours you represent different strengths within the level.” He brought up a screen. “The boy is low level four, Plasmius is mid range and you are at the very top nearly a level five now.”

“Good, to see you kept your end of the bargain then,” She said to him. “When I traded you my knowledge of ghost genetics to you in exchange for the girl ghost you promised me I’d be able to easily trounce the boy next time we fought.” She couldn’t wait till the boy had his powers back and she could take her revenge on him.

“Yes yes, I was surprised you’d be willing to risk imprisonment by the Observents for committing the worst crime of all.” He said as he began to walk toward the portal back to the real world. “Shame you’ll never get the chance to hurt the boy.” He turned and fired a blast of energy that launched out of his home.

She was furious and was about to retaliate when suddenly she was surrounded by guards. “Penelope Spectra you have committed the ultimate crime the cannibalism of another ghost.” The Observent who appeared said. She struggled to fight but she was surrounded. She realized she’d been betrayed he’d used her and then turned her in. She would make Mr. X pay for this someday, she’d make him pay.

A Brothers Confession

The door to his brother’s room on campus opened and he found himself face to face with his brother’s room mate James Dixon. The dixon boy’s mutation had continued to emerge and his skin had turned incredibly pale he had vivid green slitted eyes and black claws on his hands to go with his translucent bat wings now. “Oh Mr. Guthrie, Jeb said you’d be stopping by today he is still in shower cleaning up after our training session in the danger room.” The kid was obviously nervous around him.

“I heard from my mother that your brother lost his foot ball scholarship that is too bad,” He volunteered hoping the boy would find that easier to talk about. Carol Dixon had become a good friend of his mothers in the last few weeks asking her advice on dealing with having mutant children.

“Yeah, his new force field reacts whenever he knows he’s going to get hit so he can’t play anymore,” the boy said relaxing somewhat. “He’s staying in Jersey with our half sister while he applies for one of the minority scholarships available for mutants.” He looked a bit uncomfortable. “Dad didn’t take it well but Mathew reminded him that it was better to be let go over the power than over the steroids as this way he doesn’t have to pay back the money already spent cause he can’t help being a mutant.”

Jeb entered the room then and stared at him, “Your early I didn’t think you were going to get here for another hour?” His brother looked extremely nervous and he wondered again what Jeb wanted to talk to him about.

“I had to come anyway letting some potential students from Genosha explore the campus,” He said. “So I figured we could head into town if you don’t have any classes?” He wondered if he should invite James or not.

“I’ll let you two go I am late for flight class anyway,” James said excusing himself before he had to decide rather or not to invite him. After the other young man left he and Jeb made their way out of the school and it’s grounds and headed toward town.

“I thought you’d be happier here Jeb,” He said honestly “I mean you were in such a hurry to get here but according to Xian your still having trouble adjusting.” He had the feeling Karma knew more than she was saying but wouldn’t break a confidence. “You do know you can talk to me about anything?”

“I just thought things would be more accepted here,” Jeb said looking around. “I mean do you know some of the students say a lot of crap about you, Nate, Northstar and Karma.” He watched his brother look down. “You’d think being mutants they’d be a bit more tolerant.”

“Don’t forget Jeb, Mutants are people just like everyone else every flaw in the rest of humanity is unfortunately just as common amongst us.” He could tell that wasn’t the answer Jeb wanted to hear. “Is James one of the ones saying things about me is that the problem?”

“No James is alright even though he’s a year older than me and his dad was my jack ass probation officer,” Jeb said looking away. “The problem is I thought I’d be able to be myself here but I run into the same type of people.”

“This isn’t just about being a mutant is it,” he asked carefully. He saw Jeb look away. “Relax you don’t have to say anything to me or anyone else until your ready.” He could tell Jeb was conflicted so he just stayed silent.

“But your already know don’t you,” Jeb said looking up. “You figured it out form what I said?” He took a moment to decide how to respond to that. He didn’t want to say the wrong thing.

“It doesn’t matter what I know or don’t know,” He said after a moment. “Until you are ready to talk about it all you need to know is that I’m here when your ready to talk.” He really wished he’d had a chance to speak to Xi’an about this before hand.

“I guess I get that, it really shouldn’t matter should it mom took you dating a guy well,” Jeb said after a moment. “Of course she could just be hoping you’d end up back with Lila or another girl later since your bi-sexual.”

“Ma isn’t the type to not say what she means and she’s fine with Nate,” he said and based on things Nate had said she was actually the only family member that was one hundred percent convinced he wasn’t a rebound fling.

“Yeah I guess that’s true about Ma,” Jeb said and then took a deep breath. “I’m gay, and I’m sure when my friends were showing me their dad’s play boys I was more interested in the ad for Calvin Klien underwear in one of them than the centerfolds.”

“I wasn’t going to ask if you were sure,” He said laughing a bit. “I think you probably have a better idea of who you like than I would.” He said and seeing Jeb relaxing couldn’t resis a bit of teasing. “So dating anyone yet?”

“No, I haven’t come out to anyone besides you and my room mate,” Jeb said after a moment. “I only came out to James cause he found something I didn’t want anyone to see.” He looked really embarrassed about that. “He’s been pretty cool about things though it surprised me considering his dad.” His brother then got really quiet. “Please don’t tell anyone else though I’m not ready to tell the others yet.”

“Nate’s in my head so he’ll find out but we won’t tell anyone else,” He promised his brother who looked at him in shock. “Side effect of dating a telepath a bond develops so it is very difficult to lie about things.” He could tell Jeb was freaked out by that. “It is a bit of an adjustment but there are compensations.”

“Like what?” Jeb asked clearly at a complete loss as to how having someone in your head could ever be a good thing. He must have blushed a bit cause Jeb was staring at hm in open mouth shocked. “It is a sex thing isn’t?”

“Your too young and my brother so we are not talking about this,” he said which he knew just confirmed it in Jeb’s mind that it was a sex thing. “Let’s go hit that ice cream place up the street and then we’ll get back to the school.” He put his hand on Jeb’s shoulder. “I know Xi’an and Jean Paul run a gay straight alliance and the school you might want to consider joining when your ready.” His brother nodded but said nothing.

Goodbye

“Hello Rachel,” Madelyne Pryor said standing at the foot of her bed in the cabin where she and Logan were asleep. She climbed out of bed cautiously glancing at Logan to see he still slept. “Don’t worry he won’t even know you’ve been gone.”

“I’m not going to let you keep playing with people’s minds,” She said to the other woman. “Do you know how bad a mess you caused keeping everyone’s emotions suppressed and then taking off like that?” She felt her anger boiling over. “Not to mention all the people disappointed that you had the means to bring folks back to life and only did twelve total?”

“Any more and Wicked would have died the girl’s powers were not meant to be used like that even with the phoenix powering her she would have been lost,” Madelyne said smiling. “The Twelve I resurrected will all have rolls to play in saving the future.”

“Even Stryfe, he will help save the future,” She said allowing her disbelief to show. “He’s a monster raised by Apocalypse I know he supposedly gave his life for a good cause but after everything he’s done I don’t believe he’ll ever be good.”

“Strange sentiment considering who is sharing your bed,” Madelyne said and then she was grabbed and taken somewhere else. “Welcome a small village in Africa where a group of volunteers are trying to set up a hospital,” Madelyne said pointing toward a building. “Recognize the head doctor?”

She did staring at Stryfe dressed as a simple volunteer doctor. She reached out mentally and was shocked to see he had no idea who he was. “You took his memory away why?” She said turning toward the other woman. “What does it accomplish to mind control him into changing?”

“He asked for this a chance to live a life not dominated by his past it was my gift to him as his mother,” Madelyne said looking away. “Considering you are also his mother in a way Mother Askani you should be happy for him.” She looked away the knowledge that she was the reason Stryfe’s evil had been unleashed in the first place was a bitter pill to swallow. “Now come there is one more matter we must discuss.”

She was teleported again and found herself standing in a sterile metal room with a single cyrogenic bed in the center. She could tell it had bene modified some how because something about it gave her the creeps. “Why are we here, and where exactly is here?”

“We are on Krakoa and we are hear because I want you to throw the switch that will put me into cryogenic sleep,” Madelyne said grimly. “I am sure that you have noticed the Phoenix is within me again.” She had noticed it and as she looked closer she could see it was a lot more fragments than Madelyne had the first time. “I cannot get away form them they keep coming to me and I fear what I will do if I stay awake.”

“So your solution is to put yourself to sleep and what just lay there for a few decades until the force is complete inside of you or something?” She couldn’t believe the other woman. “Not to mention how am I supposed to get back to Earth if you do this.”

“There’s a remote on the side of the bed that will use my son’s body slide system to send you to providence you can get back home from there,” Madelyne said with a wry smile. “I am going to sleep until the force leaves me.” She pointed toward the modified equipment. “That is Shiar tech that will detect when the force is gone and allow me to return to the waking world.” She then looked back at her. “I do not think I will have to wait long after all sooner or later your mother should return or a new host will be chosen and these fragments will leave me.”

“And what if your wrong,” She said to the other woman. “Are you willing to lay there for decades, centuries or even millennia.” She couldn’t believe that Madelyne was going to just lay there waiting to be free of the phoenix.

“I know myself child if I gain much more power I will become the Goblin Queen again and try to take over the world I’ve put it off as long as I can but I must either do this or die and I don’t want to die.” Madelyne said angrily. “I would rather sleep for a million years and start over with a fresh start at life instead of dying without ever really getting a life of my own.” There were actually tears in the other woman’s eyes. “If you won’t do this I’ll go get my son but I’d rather it was you because you understand the power I’ve got inside me and why I’m doing this he never would.”

“All right I’ll do it but what should I tell Nathan,” She asked after a moment. “He’s bound to ask how I used his body slide system without his permission.” She saw Madelyne smile weakly then. “I mean it Maddie just tell me what to tell him.”

“Tell him good bye and that I’m sorry I won’t be there next year when the trouble really starts,” The woman said and then her face got grave. “Tell everyone to be wary one year from now because that is when things will really fall apart the next year is the calm before the storm and I won’t be there to help.” She started to ask the other woman what she meant but then Madelyne turned and climbed into the chamber. “Just push the start button I’d do it myself but I’m afraid.”

She decided not to ask her anything and pushed the button. “Good luck Maddie, hopefully we will see each other again some day.” The lid of the chamber dropped down and clouded over with ice. She picked up the remote and hoped it worked.

She hit the button and then she was standing in the middle of the control room of Providence surrounded by guards as the alarms screeched about an unauthorized body slide. She raised her hands and waited till Cable came into the room in a hurray. “Hi baby brother,” she said smiling sheepishly. “It was your mom’s idea.” She said when he just kept staring at her.

Contains: References to the events of Another visit so mention of Gambit/Colossus. Also mentions in passing Scott/Jean and one sided Wolverine/Jean.

Notes: This story is a bit open ended since it is meant to set up the story arc that will follow it.

The Confession

“I lost him after he went over the wall,” Wolverine said to her as he arrived back at the mansion. “The swamp rat had a motorcycle stashed there.” She could tell by his posture that he was irritated. “We are going to have to talk to Charles about that Colossus kid if this is going to keep happening just because he wants to get laid.”

“I do not believe any of this is Piotr’s fault Wolverine,” She said allowing her voice to take on a warning tone. “He informed us of Gambit’s first visit and you boasted that your security upgrades would keep him out.”

“Storm, Wolverine,” Jean said showing up. She noticed Logan’s expression softening and Jean looking uncomfortable. She hadn’t spoken to her friend yet but it was obvious that Jean had picked up on his infatuation and was uncomfortable about it. “The Professor wants you to join me and Scott in his office.” She knew sooner or later she would have to talk to him about how uncomfortable he was making Jean.

They followed the girl to Charles office where Scott was waiting while Xavier was reading something. “Ororro, Jean, Logan, please have a seat,” He said as he looked up from the sheet of paper he was reading. “I have something I need to discuss with all of you brought on by this morning’s excitement.”

“I don’t get how he got back in this time Charlie but it won’t happen again,” Logan said irritation clear in his demeanor. Charles just handed him the sheet of paper he’d been reading. “What’s this?” She watched as Logan’s eyes widened and a snarl appeared on his face. “That arrogant little...” He stopped talking when Charles raised his hand.

She was about to ask what was on the sheet of paper when Charles decided to explain. “Mr. Lebeau decided to give us some help with our security problems and left a list of holes to plug for next time.” She had to suppress a smile at how daring the young man was. “This only reaffirms my decision to offer the young man a place in our fight for mutant rights.”

“Your letting him join the X-men,” Scott said clearly upset. “He’s a common thief professor and unlike Piotr doesn’t have the excuse of having a loved one held hostage by Magneto.” She could tell Logan was also bristling at the suggestion of making the boy an X-man. She had her own concerns but they were different.

“Charles even if the boy wanted to join us; I doubt we could protect him from his past crimes as we have Piotr.” She said quickly. Charles raised his hand as Logan was taking a breath to begin voicing his own dissent and concerns. She set back waiting for Charles to speak up.

“He will not be joining the X-men yet,” Charles said taking a deep breath. “I have a confession to make to all of you.” She glanced around to see everyone even Jean looked shocked. “The X-men are not the only mutants loyal to our cause for some time now I have employed operatives who can go places the X-men can’t and do things of a dubious legal nature.”

“Your talking black ops,” Logan said with a glare. “What are you thinking, Professor if Shield ever got wind of this they’d have you locked up.” She could hear real fear in his voice. “You have to stop this now.”

“I agree Logan, there is a great deal of risk” Charles said giving him a stern look. “However, there are threats out there that can only be fought this way.” She could tell Charles was about to say something important. “That is why I will be turning my black ops agents over to you and Scott to handle.”

She could tell instantly that both Scott and Logan were going to object but Charles motioned for them to stay quiet. “I know this is surprising but Logan you have experience with these type of missions and Scott has the leadership skills and moral compass to keep this program where it needs to be.” He looked directly at them. “Piotr, as the only other student aware of my agents might be of some help as well but he cannot be too involved because of his probation.”

“What about me and Storm,” Jean asked and she glanced at the red head. “What part are we going to play in this?” She glanced at Xavier to see him pulling out several folders and laying them on the desk. He then opened one and pulled out several flyers for anti mutant hate groups.

“These groups are spreading rapidly,” Charles said with a frown. “I have been so busy trying to prevent a horrible tragedy I saw in the mind of Apocalypse that I have not been giving them the attention they deserve.” They had all noticed how driven he was about something but after the capture of Mystique he’d seemed to settle back into his old self. “Storm will take over the day to day running of the institute and supervise the new teachers I am bringing in.” This was the first she’d heard about any new teachers. “Jean, you will join Hank and I, along with several of the more advanced students in a good will media tour.” He smiled gravely. “We must attempt to counter act the vile bigoted anti mutant propaganda spreading through out the world’s media.”

“About these new teachers, Charles,” She asked when while the others sat in silence. “How many of them can we expect?” There were other things she wanted to ask him but they would have to wait until she could do so in private.

“As you know before I founded my school I helped several mutants over the years,” He said with a hint of pride. “Three of my former students have consented to join the school as teachers, John Proudstar, Elizabeth Braddock and Sean Cassidy.” He paused briefly. “I am also pleased to report that a third class of mutants will soon be starting at our school.” He smiled then. “The world is changing fast so we must adapt or be left behind.”

She glanced at the others and felt herself frowning Charles hadn’t made any mention about new students before now. She needed to see him alone to find out what had brought on all these sudden changes. “We are behind you completely Professor,” Scott said but she saw jean frowning at him. She imagined Jean sensed that Scott’s words weren’t completely true. She could tell by the tight set of his jaw that Scott was not really happy with Xavier’s decisions. Which was something else she would have to talk to him about. She agreed that Scott had potential to be a great leader but he wasn’t ready for the responsibility of helping Logan run a clandestine group of spies.

Untitled Ficlet

“Simon why do these frogs have heat vision?” He asked as he stared at the latest creation his sometimes side kick had showed him. He really hoped his friend hadn’t been playing around with his dna with his frogs.

“No reason they were a total accident I was trying for villain trapping force field beams,” Simon said sounding nervous. He considered pushing the issue but the other guy was so nervous he decided to wait. He wanted to know why Simon had asked him to drop by after school. “Anyway I need to tell you something.”

He waited deciding that if he pushed Simon looked like he was going to bolt. He honestly found it really strange to see his normally reckless friend acting so shy. “I’ve been talking with Sajan and he convinced me I should talk to you about how jealous I’ve been about you and Lori.”

“You’ve got a crush on Lori?” He asked a bit surprised and rushed to put his friend at ease. “Nothing is going to happen between the two of us I can’t get past the fact she’s technically my cousin even if she insist that doesn’t count cause I’m a clone.” He could see the appeal Lori was beautiful but he couldn’t get past the relation on the Luthor side of his DNA.

“I wish it was that simple,” Simon said looking as green as one of his frogs. “I’m not really jealous of you cause Lori is interested in you.” He watched as Simon took a deep breath. “I’m jealous of Lori cause I thought you were interested in her.” He was a bit startled and Simon seemed to take his shock at that statement as outright rejection. “I knew I shouldn’t have listened to Sajan and just stayed quiet instead of telling you so I wouldn’t let it fester whatever the hell that means.”

“Simon relax,” He said to get his friend’s attention. “I’m just surprised that’s all give me a minute here.” He could tell that Simon was a bit relieved but he still looked ready to bolt any minute. “Simon calm down I’m not going to do anything to you.” He knew they were in Kansas but Simon was taking the nervousness way to far.

“Sorry, I know even though your straight you wouldn’t be the type to beat me up but I was worried you wouldn’t let me be your side kick anymore.” Simon said quickly. “I mean I already had to give up hanging out with Connor Kent around town.” He still felt a bit guilty about making that ultimatum when Simon had first showed up as his wanna be side kick but he also still felt it was necessary.

“Who said I was straight,” He said to distract himself from the nagging guilt. He saw Simon start. “Just cause I like girls doesn’t mean I don’t like guys too.” He had to admit the absolutely shell shocked look on Simon’s face was kind of funny. “Everyone just assumes because of how much I love women that I’m straight and no ever just asks me.”

“So your saying your bisexual?” Simon asked seeming to finally get over his complete shock. “I would have thought that would have made the news unless you’ve been done anything with a guy?” Simon looked slightly embarrassed as he went on. “There are lots of women online who claim to have slept with you but I don’t recall any men.”

He should have known Simon would be cyber stalking him as well. “I’ve slept with two guys but both were in situations where it wouldn’t make the gossip rags since one was on another planet and the other was in the future.” He decided to add for good measure. “And most of those women are lying I’ve had a one night stand with someone I rescued once any other women I slept with I was dating.” He still regretted taking that woman up on the offer but it had been shortly after Tana left him and he was lonely.

“So would you like to go out sometime?” Simon asked and then seemed to realize what he’d said. “Sorry, I mean if I can’t be Connor Kent’s best friend there is no way I can be his boyfriend.” Simon turned back toward one of the frog tanks. “I’ll just get back my frogs, you can go.”

“It wouldn’t be a good idea to go walking down main street holding hands since this is Kansas after all,” he said placing his hand on his friends shoulder. “However, I can fly us anywhere and we can give it a shot.” He wasn’t completely sure why he was agreeing to go on a date with his friend but it couldn’t hurt and Simon was attractive even if he hadn’t considered dating him. “However,” he said as Simon turned around. “We take things slow cause I still have to deal with Cassie and Lori?” He also didn’t want to hurt his friend and he was getting the impression that would be very easy to do.

“That’s perfect I’m a scientists I know how to take my time.” Simon said and he privately doubted that. He had never known Simon to be patient about any of his scientific endeavors as the multicolored super powered frogs attested. “Why don’t we go somewhere Friday night?” he nodded and after making the plans he took off.

He found Sajan waiting for him back on the farm. “Simon spoke with you then?” Sajan asked and he nodded he was really curious why Sajan had convinced Simon to talk to him. “I convinced him to talk to you because his jealousy was eating at him and I was worried what might happen.” He was no Tim but a suspicion popped into his head then. “I need to go I promised to help Laurie see if she had any real psychic potential.” He watched hte other man leave and got even more suspicious. He decided to take Tim’s advice and keep a closer eye on the time traveler from the future.

He didn’t follow Sajan since he wasn’t ready to even attempt to explain to Lori about his date with Simon yet so instead he headed inside to think about how to handle things. He still wasn’t sure he’d made the right call agreeing to this date and he needed to think about things. He had a few days and if he decided it was a bad idea he could probably let Simon down gently at dinner.

Unfair

As he sat in the hospital waiting for any word about Sam’s condition he kept replaying the moment when she’d woken him up. He could still hear her screaming as she grabbed her belly in pain. He had no doubt the baby was gone there had been so much blood staining the bed that it was impossible their unborn child had survived.

He was grateful for his powers because no ambulance could have gotten her to the hospital as quick as he did. That was a few hours ago and he still hadn’t been told anything. “Danny,” he heard and saw his sister, her husband and kids rushing toward him. He couldn’t speak so he just held on as she pulled him into a tight hug. When she finally released him he almost held on tighter but forced himself to let go. “Any word?”

"I don't know how she's doing they rushed her into emergency surgery," he said fighting to keep his voice level. "There was so much blood, it got everywhere" He never had to deal with blood while he was fighting ghosts. He still felt covered in it despite the hospital scrubs he was wearing after cleaning up in a bathroom. "I think the baby is gone Jazz." He couldn't take it just a week before they'd learned they were going to be parents and now his wife might not even live through the night he excused himself to the bathroom and stared into the mirror over the sink.

"Danny," A shaky voice said from behind him and he turned to see Tucker entering the room carrying the clothes he’d asked him for. He could see the horror in Tucker’s face and knew his friend had seen the bed and all the blood. “I brought you your clothes.” He took them unable to say anything to his friend who looked unsure of what to do. “Do you want me to stay or go wait outside with Jazz and the rest of your family.”

“I just need to be alone,” He said and saw Tucker nod. “Please keep watch for m parents and Danielle.” He then faltered. “And if the Doctor comes with news come get me.” He saw Tucker nod and watched his friend go. He changed into his own clothes and then sat down on one of the toilet lids as a horrifying thought hit him. Sam could die and for all his years of fighting ghost he still had no idea what happened after death. He'd met ghosts who may have been alive once but he didn't know if everyone who died became ghosts or just some of them.

Even if Sam died and became a ghost the odds where he'd never find her as the ghost zone was so vast it seemed to go on forever. "Danny the doctor is here and he has some news." Tucker called saving him from the horror of thinking about Sam as a ghost. He was out of the bathroom like a shot actually passing through Tucker.

"How is she?" He spit out even as she slid to a stop in front of the tired looking doctor. "Is she going to be all right?" He felt Jazz's hand on his arm urging him to be quiet and let the doctor speak.

"She's in critical condition and lucky to be alive." The doctor said after a moment. "We had to perform an emergency hysterectomy," he looked down. "There were two many tears in her uterus to repair it was safer to take the entire organ out." The Doctor looked extremely uncomfortable as he looked over at him. "I'm not sure what caused it but it's as if a small bomb went off inside her there was this unusual green material inside the uterine lining."

He could only think of one thing the green material could be and even though he dreaded it he had to ask. "Did it look like this doctor?" He summoned a bit of ectoplasm and knew the minute he saw the doctor's shocked look of horror. "It's my fault this happened because of what I am." He didn't wait for anyone to respond he took off flying through the roof of the hospital and out into the night air.

He flew erratically his mind racing with the horrifying thought that because of what he was Sam had nearly died and his unborn child had self destructed. He wished for the first time in a long time that he’d never become Danny Phantom at all. He realized then that he could make that happen with a little help. He heard a voice and saw Danielle flying towards him but he didn’t have time to talk to her now.

He needed to fix this and there was only one place he could do that. He reached out drawing on a power that he'd only recently gained to force open a portal to the ghost zone. He stepped through closing the portal behind him Danielle could have to go all the way to the Fenton Portal if she wanted to follow him. He set off immediately for Clockwork's home. He was prepared to have to force the issue but Clockwork just pointed toward the portal. "Hello Daniel, I've been expecting you," Clockwork said casually. "The portal is ready just step in and it will take you where you need to go?"

"No fight," he asked wondering why Clockwork wasn’t objecting to his plan to change history. He saw Clockwork turn away and look off into the distance. “Well why aren’t you trying to stop me?”

"I'm afraid if I tried to stop you that you'd just cause more trouble than I need," the ghost who controlled time said simply. "So step through the portal and I'll send you where you need to be." He was still wary but he needed to go now. He rushed through the portal planning to change history so he was never Danny Phantom.

He was shocked to find himself in a hospital room."Danny is that you?"He heard Sam say weakly.
He felt like screaming Clockwork hadn't sent him to the past he'd sent him into Sam's room at the hospital. "You've been gone for three days, I was worried." He saw then how small and fragile she looked surrounded by all those machines.

"I'm so sorry Sam," He said as he knelt down by her bed. "I'm so sorry." He gave up any thought of going back and trying to force Clockwork to send him to the past. He had to stay here with her he couldn't leave her alone again.

The Chosen Witness

She stood watching Spiderman holding his daughter that she’d found amongst the children who had brought with them to this world. She saw Reed Richards looking over at her even as Sue Storm and Franklin Richards Walked into the room. “Now Rachel can you tell us how you learned that Spiderman’s supposedly deceased daughter was among the children and infants transported here.”

“You mean duplicated here,” She said and saw his eyes widen. “I was told by the same person I suspect told Franklin.” She saw Sue stopping in fear and Franklin nodding. “Mother Askani is the name I call her but she’s actually my future self sort of.”

“Mother Askani will do for them to call me as well,” The old woman said appearing in the middle of the room. “Now that you and Franklin are in close enough proximity I can finally speak to everyone.” She was a bit startled to see the older woman who’s voice had been in her head the last few days since awakening on counter Earth. “We have much to discuss Dr. Richards.”

“You are the one who told my son that we were just copies?” He asked and the old woman nodded. “If I may ask why did you not come to us directly or use Rachel Summers instead of a child to pass on that information.”

“Franklin is the strongest anchor I could find I had to start with him, and after I understood more about how this world works then I could reach out to Rachel.” Mother Askani nodded in her direction. “And now that they are in the same room I can speak to everyone.” Mother Askani said shaking her head. “This world was created by the original Franklin Richards and the residue of his power was used to create all of you so your Franklin has become the keystone of this world.” Her face then turned grave. “The sad truth is that I am here because Madeylyne Pryor made a mistake when she decided to give this world back its super heroes and to stabilize it form ever being altered again.”

“What kind of mistake,” She asked before anyone else could. “As far as anyone can tell no one can break through the field for decades so we are stuck here and will have to live our lives here.” She could even sense the general dislike of being trapped here amongst people.

“People will never stop looking for a way through the barrier and in just five short years Reed will solve the problem when he is shown all the others work,” Mother Askani said looking at him. “And then Doom becomes the problem for everyone because he will lose what remains of his sanity and his code of honor when he learns he is just a copy.” Mother Askani snorted then. “He goes form an arrogant petty tyrant to a mad man who destroys this world to remake himself as a god to surpass his original self and then he destroys the other world.”

“So to keep Doom from doing that, Reed, simply has to let the barrier run its course and burn out on its own,” Sue asked looking at the older verison of herself. She could tell by Mother Askani’s face that it wasn’t going to be the case.

“No Doom is nearly as smart as your husband and it will take him longer but within a decade or two he will discover how take down the barrier,” Mother Askani said. “So I am sorry but this world must be changed so everyone knows they belong here on Counter Earth.” Suddenly there were other people in the room with them standing still. She recognized the Scarlet Witch but the brown haired and red haired teenagers standing behind her were unknown to her.

“Franklin,” Sue was calling but he was standing stock still with his eyes glowing. “What have you done to my son?” Sue said turning on Mother Askani but instead of answer she jsut raised her hands and the would went white.

She opened her eyes on a hill dressed in formal clothing. “You should get up you’ll ruin your dress for your father’s wedding.” Mother Askani was standing over her and she struggled to her feet. “I am sorry but in order to work the shift I needed an anchor who would remember everything and that unfortunately was you.”

“So the entire world has been changed but how did you explain the missing people,” She asked knowing that counter Earth’s population was lower. “Or did you create new duplicates of the missing family members.”

“No if you concentrate you can access the memories of your life in this world,” Mother Askani said. She closed her eyes and focused and then memories began to show up of her mother dying in a firey battle over a year ago.

“The Beyonder you created a memory of the Beyonder of Counter Earth attacking and wiping out billions of people.” Mother Askani nodded. “You also blamed the barrier on him won’t Reed and Doom still try to bring it down?”

“They will try but I embedded a psychic impulse deep in the minds of all the geniuses who could possible solve the riddle that will keep them from ever actually managing to solve it.” Mother Askani said with a sad smile. “I want you to understand when you see things that startle you that every change I made was done using the secret wishes and desires of the people involved.” Mother Askani laughed then. “Even I was amazed at some of the things that have now occurred.” The older woman pointed toward the mansion “Now go watch your father get married in this world you’ve forgiven him just as you long to do deep down.”

“And if I don’t,” She said angrily. “What will you do if I go telling folks the truth and trying to set things back to the way they were?” She just saw Mother Askani smile then and project images of Doom destroying everything. “Fine I won’t change things back but I don’t ever want to see you again.”

“You won’t because saving this world was only done to save the original Earth.” Mother Askani said with a sad smile. “I have done what was needed from me and now this world is on it’s own when you see the other Rachel again in thirty years for you and much less for her ask her all about this.” Mother Askani was gone then and she was alone on the hill.

“Hey Red,” Logan called as he walked up in a suit. “Come on we are going to miss Scott and Emma’s big day if you don’t get a move on.” She felt torn the new memories bubbling just under the surface showed her at peace with her Dad’s choice but she wasn’t so sure she could play that part. “Ray, what’s the matter.”

“Just a bit conflicted again,” She said as it was the only explanation she could use. “I just miss my mom.” She made her decision then there was no way she’d burden Logan with this as he couldn’t keep the secret if he knew she knew that so she would lie to him.

The End.

A Brother’s Problem

“Thanks for coming, Sam,” His mother said sounding frazzled. “I know you are busy on Genosha but I really need you to talk to your brother Jeb,” she said and he could hear out stressed out she was. “I mean first this mess with Joelle and then Jeb got into a fight at school.”

“He didn’t violate his probation did he,” He asked in worriedly. “And what’s going on with Joelle.” Feeling a bit guilty that he wasn’t up on everything going on at home. He always felt a bit guilty about leaving the family to head to Xaviers.

“No, the other boy started it and Jeb remembered not to use his powers so the probation officer let him off with a warning but one more fight and he’s going to Juvenile hall.” His mother, “I’ve heard the stories about what happens to mutants there and I don’t want that for your brother.” His mother then looked away, “I think the officer only let him off cause he’s afraid of that lawyer you got us but now that he’s given a legal warning I know he’ll send Jeb straight to prison.”

“I’ll talk to him,” He said and decided not to ask about Joelle agian until afterwards. “Is he in his room,” he asked and his mother nodded so he headed up the stairs. He wished they could have gotten Jeb’s probation transferred to New York but even after the Cabots had tried to wipe out his whole family the judge still wouldn’t let it be transferred until next year. Evangiline Whedon had confirmed that it was probably just red tape being thrown up to try to give Jeb time to screw up but she was positive that if the probation office didn’t arrange it next year she could force them too through the courts and was already working on the paper work if it became necessary.

“Hey Jeb, can I come in,” he called once he reached Jeb’s room. It was originally his room, then Jay’s and now Jeb’s it was tradition for the oldest boy still at home to get the room. When he didn’t hear an answer he tried the door handle and found it was locked. “Come on Jeb mom wants me to talk to you.”

The door opened and Jeb backed away quickly to jump back on the bed shoving something under his pillows. He remembered enough of his own teenage days not to comment. “Why on Earth did you get into a fight Jeb you know how risky that is for you?”

“He said that we were even worse freaks than he thought talking about my faggot brother, whore of a sister and that we should use a coat hanger to make sure Joelle didn’t give birth to another of us mutie freaks.” Jeb said looking away. “I know I should have walked away but I think you should be happy under the circumstances that I didn’t shock the shit out of him.”

He guessed that meant Joelle was pregnant and that word about him and Nate had gotten around town. “Look Jeb, people are going to say terrible crap about all of us you just have to pick your battles,” He said focusing on the problem in front of him. “Until we can get your probation transfered and get you to Xaviers you have to keep your head down.”

“I know that but you have no idea how hard it is being a mutant around here,” Jeb said looking down. “I mean you got to leave but everyone knows I have powers but it doesn’t help because I’ll go to jail if I use them to defend myself.” Jeb’s eyes were beginning to spark. “I need a break but I can’t even go visit any of my family out of town cause my bigoted parole officer refuses to allow it.” He could see how angry Jeb was. “I didn’t even get to go to my sister’s wedding out of town cause of that asshole.” He had wondered why the sudden venue change to a local church instead of one in New York. Paige had passed it off as being fairer to mom.

“Come on get up,” He said deciding he knew what his brother really needed. “I said get up and follow me.” He led the way to the closet door that was currently acting as a door way into Lila Chaney’s house. “Wait here,” He told Jeb and headed inside to grab a few small spy cameras and a phone bug. “House, I’m going to take my brother to Genosha, he’s really stressed out so I’m getting him out of here for the weekend but we need to watch for his parole officer showing up or calling can you keep watching at the front and back door of my house and if necessary reroute a phone call from his probation officer to me on Genosha?”

“Certainly I was instructed by Lila Chaney to be of assistance to the X-men,” the House AI said crisply. “I have the relevant files on the Guthrie family and associates provided by Ms. Whedon; would you like me to move the access portal to your brother Jebediah’s closet it will make for easier return if necessary.”

“Good idea,” He said and left back into his family home. Jeb was standing there looking self conscious. “Change of plans go wait back in your room for me just don’t open your closet door.” He said and then turned to his brother. “OH grab a couple of changes of old clothes, your swimsuit and your toothbrush your coming back to Genosha with me as soon as I talk to mom.”
He left his clearly confused but excited brother to head down stairs he found his mother waiting for him.

“How is he,” She asked and stared as him as he unplugged the kitchen phone long enough to add the small bug. “What are you doing to the phone,Sam?’ She asked but he just held up his finger as if he was saying to be quiet and head out on to the back porch to hang one camera. “Sam Guthrie tell me what’s going on right now.”

“Jeb, is ready to crack,” he told his mother. “He needs to get out of here so I”m going to take him to Genosha for the weekend.” He could see the panic in her eyes. “Don’t worry mom the camera’s and phone tap will make sure we can fool his probation officer if he drops by or calls.” He said. “Lila’s house will reroute any probation calls to me on Genosha and if he shows up the house will alert me and we will have him back in his room before the guy can even get up stairs.”

“ Still it is a risk Sam,” his mother said clearly worried. “Wouldn’t it be better to just try to get permission from the officer to let him go stay with you for a bit?” He could tell she already knew how that would work out.

“We both know that isn’t likely if he wouldn’t do so for Paige’s wedding,” He said angry that he hadn’t been told. “I also plan to call Evageline and have her look into matters and see if we can’t get him a new officer one who isn’t bigoted against mutants or at least speed up the transfer.” He could tell his mother was relieved so he didn’t bother to tell him they should have told him earlier.

“In the mean time I’m going to give him a break and see if I can get him to talk about anything else bothering him.” He said. “Then when I get back if you want, we can talk about Joelle and her pregnancy.” He could tell his mom was surprised he knew. “Now I’m going to put this camera over the front door and then Jeb and I are leaving so why not go say goodbye and make sure no one spills the beans on Jeb being gone.”

“I’ll make sure no one does,” His mother said as she was heading up the stairs. “If your leaving through Jeb’s room I suggest you lock the door so we’ve got a bit more deniability and time if that bigot shows up.” He smiled as he went to hang the camera.

The End.

The Conference

“Please everyone I have figured out the source of the energy wave that caused all of us to pass out,” Reed said from up on the podium. She hung back near the door that led to where her children were sound asleep. She knew most of the people present were no threat to them but bad memories of mind control, alien imposters and other dangers had her guarding the door closely.

“So have I Richards and what’s more I know who caused it,” Doom said strolling in with a red haired woman walking with him. “She just has yet to tell me why.” Doom raised his arm in a gesture of peace. “I am merely here to learn the truth of her actions, I give you my word I will leave in peace afterwards.” She was immediately on guard because the woman looked familiar and she wasn’t afraid to be in Doom’s company two warning signs.

“Maddie, you were responsible,” Cyclops of the x-men said staring at her. “I knew your line about going to Counter Earth to be a hero had to be a trick.” She could see every hero was gearing up for a fight and she mentally prepared to take her down as quickly as possible if she made a move.

“On the contrary Scott,” the woman said casually. “I did exactly as I said I would and saved the planet from total destruction.” The woman then turned toward Reed. “Dr. Richards may I address the group.”

Reed nodded and stepped away from the podium he glanced over at her and she saw clearly he wanted her to stay put where she was. He didn’t have to worry anyone trying to get through this door would regret it. “I’m sure you will all recognize this entity,” The woman Maddie said projecting an image from a device that was disturbingly familiar. She heard the whispers as folks recognized a deformed Onslaught rising out of an ocean. “Yes Onslaught.” She turned to look straight at her and she just knew the door behind her. “When the young Richards boy created what is now known as Counter-Earth Onslaught’s energy was incorporated into it over time it mixed with the residue of the boys power, and the celestial energies of Ashema and the Dreaming celestial.” She then turned and looked at doom. “As Doom can tell you someone smart enough could use that energy to remake the planet into whatever they imagined but unfortunately Doom your former general Dorma was not smart enough.”

“Using your notes that were provided to her by O and K who had decided the planet needed to be destroyed she destroyed Atlantis and started Onslaught’s reformation.” She felt a sense of dread if Onslaught was out there he might come for Franklin again. “Fortunately having been aware of the threat I was prepared and used Onslaught’s energy to restore the planet to remove all the damage done by the dreaming Celestial.” She then turned toward the room. “I apologize for the injuries and fatalities caused by the black out but I had to scan the Earth to see how things should be and those most sensitive to the scanners energies blacked out.”

“Your lying,” Cyclops said speaking up gain. “We were married Maddie I know when your lying.” He put his hand on his visor then. “Your not lying about Onslaught or fixing the planet but you are lying about it just being an accident we blacked out.”

“And that also does not explain the impenetrable field of energy that know surrounds the planet.” Doom yelled angrily stepping forward. “I gave you my word I would listen to your explanation but if you continue to lie I will destroy you.” She glanced at Reed who nodded confirming the energy shield.

“Oh very well I was going to let it be a surprise,” The woman said a dark smirk appearing on her face. “I didn’t just xerox the planet I copied all of you everyone who blacked out now has an exact double on Counter-Earth.” She then looked almost sad for a moment. “Of course they don’t know they are copies they think they are the real thing forcible teleported to Counter-Earth.” She then seemed to sober. “The barrier is to keep them there and avoid any shocking clone revelations.”

“How did you do all this,” Reed asked speaking up for the first time. “You could not have known that all of this would happen and this would have taken months of preparation.” She could tell her husband was already working on how it was done in his head.

“When I was reborn a few months ago I was a purely psychic being plugged into the cosmic force representing death and rebirth do you think looking into the future was difficult?” The woman was almost laughing at them. “It was easy to see how to manipulate events for this out come and to travel to other worlds to gain the help of alternate Reed Richards, Victor Von Dooms and others such as the High Evolutionary to make this all happen.” The woman stopped talking then and pandemonium erupted as all the heroes started talking amongst themselves.

“I have a question,” Captain America spoke up loudly. She wasn’t surprised that the room quieted down then. “How long will the shield last and what’s to stop Reed, Doom, or someone else bringing it down?”

“The field is designed to use up the celestial and mutant energies still within Counter-Earth the only way to breach it is to destroy the entire planet and no one on that world could survive that.” The woman said casually. “There is also a time variance within the shield time will move ten times faster than outside of it.” She smiled then. “It will last three years of our time but to the citizens of Counter-Earth thirty years will pass during that time,” The woman laughed then. “So assuming they survive their thirty years inside the shield some of you might get a glimpse of how things could possibly turn out.” She then vanished in a flash of light.

She immediately turned from the furious shouts and headed toward her children’s room. She knew there were sensors but she wasn’t going to wait for an alarm to see if her children were safe. She arrived to find them happy and safe and felt relieved. She realized then that there was a copy of her family up there on Counter-Earth and in three years she’d know what her kids looked like and possible see their own kids.” She was glad that her children had blacked as well then even though the event itself still scared her she wouldn’t wish waking up on a strange world without their children on anyone let alone a double of herself and Reed.

The End.

Coming Home and Coming Out

He was toweling his hair off from the shower when Jeb burst in angry having lived in this small house with so many siblings he wasn’t surprised and was used to folks barging in on him in the bathroom.. “What’s the problem Jeb,” He asked glad it wasn’t one of his sister and that he’d already pulled his underwear and jeans on. He didn’t need to hear Joelle, Cissy or Elizbeth complaining about seeing their brother naked.

“Mom says I have to wait till next year to go to Xaviers,” his brother said. “I thought for sure last week when that Sage visited and talked to mom that I was finally gonna go.” He was a bit disturbed to here Sage had visited his family and he made a note to talk to his mother about it at the first opportunity.

“Hey Jeb, mom says to get back down stairs and stop sulking,” Cissy said showing up at the top of the stairs. She then looked over at him and started giggling she then turned and headed down the stairs.

Jeb turned sulkily to head down the stairs so he pulled on a clean shirt and headed down stairs to throw his dirty clothes in the wash. He was glad to take a shower since on Genosha it was a rare privilege. “Thanks again for letting me have a shower Ma,” He said once he entered the living room.

He saw Cissy, Joelle and Elizabeth talking in the corner. “Hey Ma didn’t you say Sam said he’d broken up with Lila?” Cissy called laughing. He turned to stare at them as his mother called out an affirmative. “Then either they are back together or Sam’s got a new girl cause he’s got hickeys all over his chest.” He recalled the rather exuberant celebration he and Nate had got up to before he left and felt a bit embarrassed but thankfully didn’t blush they’d have had a field day if he had.

“So is it Lila or a new girl,” Joelle asked as she looked at his chest that was thankfully covered by t shirt. “Come on we were all disappointed when you told us you and Lila were on a break again so is it her or someone new?”

“Someone new,” he said quickly. “Who is none of your business.” He knew that they’d keep bugging him but he wasn’t ready to explain about Nate to his entire family yet. He got up and walked into the kitchen ignoring their cat calls and questions to see his mother hard at work cooking. “Jeb, said that Sage came by?”

“Yes, she came to run some scans on the family to see why so many of you turned out to be mutants and she also recently paid a visit to Arkansas to see your uncle.” His mother said as she was working. “She said it turns out that me and your uncle Lucas are both carries of inactive x-genes so she theorizes your dad was also a carrier.” His mother looked concerned for a moment. “So all of us are mutants but some of us will never have powers like me and Joelle out there she’s missing the necessary triggers to activate her mutant genes but her kids will probably be mutants.” She actually smiled then. “I know it will be hard but hopefully by the time I get grand kids the world will have grown up some and the mutant thing won’t be an issue.”

“It does explain a lot about our family,” He thought and wondered why no one had ever really looked before but then again at first it had only seemed like he and Paige where the mutants. “I don’t think you’ll be getting any grand kids any time soon.”

“I don’t know if that Worthington fellow and your sister stay together I might get some grand kids soon,” she said. “What about you and your new lady friend any chance that the two of you might work or is she a rebound while you wait for Lila to come back to Earth?” He could hear the disapproval in her tone. “She certainly can’t be that important if your sister doesn’t even know as none of her letter mention your new girl.”

“It’s a complicated situation Ma and I haven’t really had a chance to tell anyone about him yet,” He said and saw his mother start as he’d let the truth slip out. He had always had trouble lying to his mother. “I’ve just been trying to figure out how to tell you I am involved with another man.” Of course that was only the tip of the iceberg in this situation.

“Explain, I have no doubt you loved Lila so I will have trouble believing you are completely gay?” His mother said taking it pretty well so far. “Are you like the people on tv sometimes the bisexuals?” He wondered what kind of tv shows she was watching.

“Yeah,” He admitted. “I loved Lila but we just can’t seem to ever make it work and with Nate things are complicated but so far they are really good.” He could see the wheels turning his mother’s head. “I’m not dating Cable Ma,” He said quickly as he could tell she was making that assumption cause of the name. “He’s kind of Cable’s twin brother from another world though but he’s a little younger than me physically.” He watched his Mother’s eye brows rise and she quickly set down.

“I think I need to sit down for a bit go help your brothers and sister set the table.” He was reluctant to leave her but he knew that tone. Later as they ate he could tell the entire family was aware of the tension in the room between him and his mother. “Sam,” His mother said after a moment.

“Yes Mom,” He asked feeling like everyone in the room was staring at him. He really didn’t know what to expect his mind went through every possibility from get out to pass the mashed potatoes and he just didn’t know what to do.

“Melody and Jay are coming home for a visit next weekend,” His mother said with a force cheerfulness. “I’ve asked Paige and her beau Warren to stop by on Suday for a family dinner when she comes to pick them back up and I think you and the young man your involved with should join us.” He heard the audible gasp from his brothers and sisters. “After all anyone you care about is always welcome in our home.”

He felt relieved and assured his mother that he and Nate would be there. He privately wondered what it would take to convince Nate to come as the man was incredibly shy when it came to families since he’d never had one.

“So are you gay,” Jeb asked in the middle of dessert being the first of his siblings to speak up. He could tell his mother wanted to scold Jeb but she after looking at the expectant faces of the rest fo the family she apparently decided to let him deal with it.

“No, I’m bisexual,” He said and wondered what the next question would be and who it would come from. He could tell some of his siblings were debating asking him a question but they were still too shocked to do so.

“Is this the first guy you’ve dated,” Joelle finally got up the courage to ask. He immediately began working out an edited answer to give them because there was no way he was going to say what actually happened in Paris to his family.

“I dated a guy briefly in Paris but then Lilah and I got back together,” He said it was mostly true. “A few months after we broke up I got together with Nate Grey a fellow X-man helping out on Genosha.” After that his siblings started asking him about Genosha and he was glad they didn’t seem to have a problem with him dating a guy.
