Caught up Again

“Hey Jake, how you holding up,” Remy asked as he sat down next to him. “You don’t have to stay away from us no one blames you for getting tricked by the Witness.” He found it slightly endearing that Remy thought he was avoiding everyone out of guilt.

“No thanks Remy I want to avoid getting caught up in the crazyness that surrounds you and the X-men again,” He said glancing over at the other man. “That’s why I left remember it wasn’t just to find someone to get my original body back.” The fact that finally getting his original body back meant getting drawn back into this seemed to be all the proof he needed that the universe hated him.

“I am really going to miss Jackie she was nice to look at,” Remy said with a teasing expression. He wasn’t going to fall for it so he just turned and looked back out. “Come on Jake sitting here alone isn’t going to do you any good?”

“I’m not getting involved in you and the X-men’s drama again,” he said and pointed out Iceman. “He’s involved with that weird blue liquid creature,” he said glancing back at Remy. “The other three are upset about something and I don’t even want to get started on the one that multiplies.”

“Jake, your already involved you might as well enjoy yourself while you’re here,” Remy said with what on any one else would be a charming smile. “I mean it wasn’t all bad last time around we had plenty of fun?”

“Oh yes, nearly dying constantly getting turned into a woman, allowing Sinister to live for centuries, watching Quiet Bill tear us a new one and of course our ten second romance, good times.” He could barely keep the sarcasm out of his voice. “I can’t imagine why I wouldn’t want to go through all that again.”

Remy just smiled at him then,”All Right Jake have fun sitting here alone then.” He watched the other man get up and walk away and then cursed silently to himself. He was going to end up drawn into the mad merry go round that was the X-men’s life again he just knew it.

The End.

Confrontation

“Rachel can I talk to you for a minute,” Nate said surprising her as she was on her way to help with the next batch of citizens getting to decide if they stayed here or went on to the colony world. She looked up and sensed he was angry.

“Now isn’t a good time Nate,” she said feeling extremely out of sorts. She had no idea what had made him so angry but she needed to get down the stargate soon. “I really need to go help with the chores I volunteered for while we were here.”

“Oh you mean erasing folks memories and putting false ones in their place,” Nate said and she was grabbed from behind then. She sensed Sam then he’d been hidden by Nate. “Just tell us what’s going on or am I going to have to remove the blocks you’ve been installing.”

“It isn’t what you think,” She said feeling Sam’s anger over his nephew’s apparent death and the fact Jeb and his boyfriend were called up for this secret mission. “Your nephew isn’t dead Sam he’s at the true last refuge.” Sam released her in shock. “Look come into my head and I’ll explain.”

She pulled them into a representation of Xavier’s old office back at the school. “Look the last refuge’s location is secret so anyone who chooses not to go has their memories blanked so if Sentinels capture them they can’t inadvertently betray the location they all agree to it no one is forced.”

“I can understand that I guess,” Sam said though she could still feel his rage. “However, why are you helping erase memories shouldn’t Onslaught be doing that on his own.” She saw Nate watching her closely and knew he was scanning to detect even the slightest lie.

“Because they needed me to do it and because I’m doing it Onslaught is free to prepare to take down the sentinels for good with a last ditch attack for when they come in force the day we leave,” She told them about Mother Askani’s warning then. “I don’t know how or why but I think she’s the one who got us pulled into this mess.” She then pulled them back to the real world. “Now please let me go I need to be there to help explain what’s going on?”

“Alright,” Sam said. “But tell Jeb I said to take the offer he should go look after our nephew.” She nodded and headed away she could feel Nate and Sam beginning an in depth psychic discussion but she didn’t have time to stick around and find out what they were talking about.

The End.

Strange Revelation

“Look Morphus we have been over this I will not sleep with you,” he said as carefully as he could the creature Morphus had resumed it’s attempts to get him to sleep with it. He wasn’t sure how to explain to the creature what held him back. He decided to try an approach other than bringing up his intelligence. “I don’t know anything about your life before the camps.”

“Morphus will tell,” it said cheerfully. “Morphus was born thirty years ago in weapons factor.” It said and he found himself staring at it. “Morphus was lonely and escaped when Sentinels attacked.” He was staring at the creature. “What matter Morphus was honest is it cause Morphus isn’t a mutant is that why you reject Morphus?”

“Honestly Morphus it isn’t that I just feel kind of like your not intelligent enough to really understand,” He said deciding to just tell the creature its broken English made him wary that it mentally wasn’t capable of understanding anything.

“Morphus is not stupid,” It said angrily shaping itself into a huge hulking man. “Morphus understand everything even if Morphus cannot speak good.” The creature was then gone out of his room leaving him alone.

“The creature isn’t lying to you it is very intelligent,” a voice said and Forge’s image appeared on the screen he hadn’t even known Forge was alive and that shocked him again. “Sorry to intrude but I though you could use someone to talk to.”

“I guess I could but if it is intelligent then why does it speak like that?” He asked curious about the creature’s odd behavior. “I mean shouldn’t it be capable of speaking like an average person?” He then thought about. “Also based on what it just said is it even human?”

“As far as I can tell from my tests Morphus was an artificial life form meant to explore outer space it has no need for food, water or air it’s super cool liquid body can survive in the harshest of environments.” He was impressed. “However, during a sentinel attack it was released and it came into contact with several human scientist absorbing fragments of their memories some how giving it a sense of self and some knowledge of the English language.” Forge then frowned. “It is smart enough to have easily learned proper English but no one in the camps or here on the island wanted to speak with it so it never bothered.”

“Now I feel like a real jack ass,” he said and saw Forge smile slightly. “How do you think I should apologize?” He knew what Morphus would ask but he wasn’t sure he was willing to sleep with the creature no matter how much it wanted him too.

“I don’t know but there is one other thing you should know,” Forge said looking grim. “Morphus is dying it looks like it was designed to endure for only a few decades so it has begun to suffer cellular degeneration it will probably pass within the next few months.” He stared back at Forge in horror. “I believe that is why it is so desperate to experience things because it knows that it has reached the end of its life span and wants to finally experience as much as it can.” Forge then vanished from the screen and he sat down on the bed unsure what to do.

The End.

Strange Encounter

They had been on Genosha for three days when he noticed the creature following him. It was a strange blue blob that didn’t seem to take on a very detailed form. He only took notice off it because the area around it was as cold as he was and it stuck out to him. “Hey what is that?” he asked their guide Hazel Dixon known on the Island as the Harpy.

“That’s Morphus we found it in a camp we liberated about ten years ago it freezes anything it makes contact with,” she said shuddering a bit. “It doesn’t talk much but when it does it sounds like nails on a chalk board.” She shook herself again. “We have no idea what gender it started out as because there’s no testable DNA left just this sort of super cooled fluid and if it knows it doesn’t say.” They walked on then and he could tell she put the creature out of her mind as soon as possible but he felt a strange sort of kinship he couldn’t touch anyone either.

Later when he was back in his assigned room writing a resignation letter that was even more pointless than the other one he heard a sliding sound and turned to see the creature in his room. “Morphus right?” It formed a head and nodded. “What are you doing here?”

“You are like Morphus, can’t touch others hurt them,” it said and he realized what Hazel meant the voice was horrible. He nodded his head and then the creature was on him forming a female form and kissing him. “Make love to Morphus let Morphus feel.” It said in between trying to kiss him again. He managed to push it off and the creature looked confused. “Would you like male?” It said and formed a male body and began to approach him again.

“No, look I’m flattered but I’m not going to have sex with you,” He said quickly. “Just back off.” He saw the creature wilt then shrinking in on itself and forming a blob. It then began to make a keening crying sound that was even worse than its voice. “Look I’m sorry but you can’t force someone to do that it isn’t right.”

“Morphus sorry,” It said after a moment. “But Morphus never been held, never been touched seen others and been jealous you like Morphus, Morphus finally think someone Morphus can be with.” The creature then began to slider to the door. “Morphus go Morphus not bother you again.”

“Wait stop,” he called. He felt sorry for the creature he had been kept up knowing he’d never touch another living person again but this creature it seemed had never been touched. “I won’t sleep with you but if you want to stay and talk we can and I’ll let you hug me some.” The creatures enthusiastic hug nearly knocked him over but then he heard it crying again but this time it seemed happy. This was definitely a strange experience.

The End.

The True Last Refuge

“You asked to see me,” She asked carefully as she entered what would only be described as a throne room where Brain Xavier Onslaught sat looking bored. “I have to say this room doesn’t fill me with confidence that we can trust you.”

“You mean the trappings of power where I rule as a king over the lowly mutant citizens of Genosha,” he said with a half smile. “Believe me it is all an act.” He said pushing a button on the throne and it slid out of the way. “It is for the benefit of those watching in the outside world so they don’t realize what we are actually doing here.” He motioned for her to follow him and they sat off down the stares that ended at a lift. “It is a long way down so I hope you aren’t claustrophobic?”

“I’m not,” She said as they climbed into the lift and it started moving down. “So why are you showing me all this?” She saw him look at her sadly and then she got it. “You can’t tell anyone else about this whatever your doing down here is a secret from the mutants on the surface of Genosha as well isn’t it?”

“Yes and no they knew at one time what was going on down here but after making their choice to stay on Genosha I erased the truth form their minds in case they were ever captured by Sentinels.” He said shaking his head. “Sooner or later Genosha will be destroyed and everyone who made the choice to stay will be stuck here for good.”

“Genosha isn’t the real last refuge is it?” She asked as the truth of that answer hit her. “You’ve got somewhere else somewhere the sentinels can never get to,” He nodded then. “Where is it is it Counter Earth?”

“No the sentinels arranged to destroy counter Earth early on during their conquest,” He said shaking his head sadly. “They didn’t trust a planet created by a mutant so they hurled several huge meteors into it destroying everything.” She could see how much it hurt him. “There were a few thousand mutant survivors though from the mutants who settled in the Counter Earth Attilan they fled into outer space and were picked up by the Shiar ship that was coming to answer my father’s distress call.”

“The Professor called in the shiar?” She was surprised by that since Lilandra had divorced him after the Cassandra Nova thing. “And they came to help?” She couldn’t believe that the Shiar would help at all.

“They offered limited aid they transported the city to a barren bearly habital world and left them there to start over,” He said and she could hear the anger in his voice. “They then handed us and them a pair of linked Stargates and that was it.” He snorted. “Since then every so often folks from Genosha are at random invited down here and allowed to know the truth about the true last sanctuary those that choose to go join it do so and are reported killed on secret missions for our cause.”

“How many mutants are on that world now?” She asked wondering if there was a world of mutants out there who could be brought back to save this world. “Are there enough to destroy the sentinels and save this world?”

“At last count there were just about three and a quarter million people on the planet a little over half of the number of surviving mutants on our world.” He said shaking his head. “The stargate can only handle transmitting a few dozen people and equipment at a time so we can’t reinforce our numbers enough to make a difference.” He then turned toward an area where the wall changed to a familiar yellow color. “Anyway the engineer wants to talk to you he’s the real person in charge of keeping us all alive.” He turned then and headed back up the stairs. “I just wanted you to know despite what you may see me do that I’m not a bad guy I’m playing the role I have to so some of our people can be saved.”

“That boy carries a terrible burden,” a voice said and she turned to see a form emerging from the wall. It was Forge only he was living machinery like Warlock or the phalanx. “It is good to see you again Rachel I had given up hope of you ever coming back even though she said you would.”

“She?” She asked and then she just knew. “Mother Askani,” she said and he nodded. “Why did you want to see me?” She was beginning to suspect that her past self as Mother Askani had a hand in everything that was happening to them.

“Because Genosha will fall on the last day you are here,” He said gravely. “Mother Askani has already shown me that so for the next thirty days I will be sending as many people as I can through the Stargate and will only destroy it at the last possible moment when the sentinel attack begins.” She was staring at him in shock. “Now Brain doesn’t have the time to stand here and help me deal with folks who wish to forget but you have nothing to do for now.”

“So your still giving folks the choice?” She asked shocked. “Why not just force them to go through?” She knew the answer immediately then. “That colony world hasn’t been made viable to support everyone there is limited space isn’t there?”

“Yes, with the benefit of mutant powers it is far more habitable than it was but it will be decades before we could send everyone through however I am sending along DNA samples from every man woman and child on Genosha so if they ever need fresh blood they can combine and mix those DNA samples in artificial wombs. “Once I destroy the stargate Brian will put the final strategy for saving this world into effect a massive EMP which will destroy every machine on the planet plunging the world back into the dark ages but taking the sentinels out for good.”

“That will kill millions of people,” She said and sensed from Forge a sad acceptance of that fate. “What if I refuse to help you?” She sensed a kind of weary sadness from him and an image of Nate appeared on screen. “So you’ll ask Nate to step in and do it then ?”

“Yes, only yourself, Brain and Nate Grey have the necessary power to accomplish this.” Forge looked sad. “Since you came from a world very similar to this one I hoped you would help me to save as many lives as possible.” That was a low blow but he was right.

“All right I’ll help.” She really didn’t want Nate to have to make this choice even though he came from a hell hole that was just as bad as the one she did he was still a bit more innocent than she was. “But you have to tell me everything Mother Askani said to you I want answers about why this is happening to us.”

“I will tell you everything I know,” Forge said. “I will send word for the first set of people to make the choice to come down.” She began to brace herself for making folks forget who wanted to stay and fight. She hated messing with people’s memories for any reason but she had to admit this was a good one if Brain failed to destroy all the sentinels they could never know some of the mutants escaped to start over on another world.

The End.

Finding Family

“I heard you were back,” Jeb said walking up and giving him a hug. His brother was older than him physically. “I’d like you to meet our nephew, Kurt,” His brother said pointing out a spikey blond haired kid wearing a pair of glasses. “He’s Joelle’s kid.”

“I’m glad to meet you,”He said and noticed there was no other family members coming forward. “Are the two of you all that is left?” He asked and Jeb nodded uncomfortably. “How did the others die?”

“We lost Ma and every one at the farm but Elizabeth and Kurt she managed to fight her way free of the sentinel attack with our nephew,” Jeb said shaking his head. “The rest of the survivors, Jay his wife Dust, Paige and her kids along with Elizabeth were killed on a mission for Onslaught I was the only survivor.” He could tell his brother wasn’t going to say anything more.

“I need to go Uncle Jeb, Arlee and I have a mission to get ready for,” Kurt said giving him a curious look. “It was nice to meet you I heard a lot about you.” He could tell the kid was nervous so he didn’t take it to heart.

“Nice to meet you as well when you get back from your mission we can talk and get to know each other,” He said and the kid nodded taking off. “So who is Arlee?” He asked to have something to change the subject too instead of the fact all their family was gone.

“Arlee Hicks another mutant survivor from the area and his girlfriend,” Jeb said shaking his head. “And yes her grand father is the same Hicks on the city council that keeps trying to get the city to pass an anti mutant ordinance saying mutants have to clear out of town in your time.”

“Can you tell me how the world got like this if we make it back to the past I’d like to see if I can change things,” He said knowing even if he could it wouldn’t help this Jeb. “No one seems that willing to talk about whatever happened?”

“No one likes to think about how badly we all failed,” Jeb said shaking his head. “I can’t tell you everything I was just a student for the beginning years but it seems everything went wrong after Wolverine vanished with the aid of the Witness to find Rachel.” Jeb looked thoughtful. “After that the Dark Riders killed nearly every former horseman of Apocalypse except for the Hulk he was too strong for them.” He looked darkly. “Apocalypse took care of him his self when he attacked New York City and turned it into a mad house.”

“Apocalypse?” He was staring at his brother. “He came back?” His brother nodded. “He was behind the disappearances wasn’t he Wild Child , Guido and the others?” His brother nodded. “So was his attack on New York the catalyst for all this?”

“Sort of,” Jeb said shaking his head. “Apocalypse was killed by Cable but doing so killed him and Apocalype’s followers fled and kept attacking and sense most of the heroes died with Apocalpse things got really bad really quickly.” Jeb shook his head. “So the Sentinels were covertly approved as a new police force against super terrorism but Bastion hijacked them and this is the result.”

“When did Gambit make it back,” He asked then. “Before or after Apocalypse attacked?” That was the important detail he needed to know what kind of time frame they would have to change things.

“He arrived back about a month after the final battle with Apocalypse,” Jeb said shaking his head. That meant that they couldn’t change the out come of those events to make things better. “By then the Sentinels were in production and he either didn’t know or knew they couldn’t be stopped.” After they both got quiet there wasn’t much to say. Jeb brightened considerably as a blond haired young man approached. “Hey, Sam I’d like you to meet my boyfriend Frank.” He pasted on a smile he would worry about how to fix this future if they managed to make it back for now he’d just find out what kind of man his brother grew up to be involved with.

Arrival at the last Refuge

He wished he could really feel the wind as they were racing along in the stolen yacht they liberated from a harbor in South Africa. If he could feel the wind he might have been able to forget that they couldn’t just link to Genosha some kind of scrambler that kept outside devices from opening portals into the city. He was stuck on this crazy trip with a bunch of X-men he wasn’t that close to and now they were trying to reach an island full of mutants under the control of Onslaught.

He was beginning to think he should have handed in one of those letters of resignation he’d been writing every morning for the last few weeks. “Why couldn’t you all have just let me stay in the house,” the dupe of Jaime Madrox said. They’d found him trying to send a dupe with them when they left to go to South Africa to steal a boat. Unfortunately for him the dupe he created ratted him out as pay back for being asked to go. “I should just reabsorb that bastard traitor of a dupe.”

“Why don’t you?” He asked tired of hearing him whine. “I mean the real Madrox absorbs dupes all the time when they annoy him.” He saw the other dupe turn and glare at him. “What something I said?”

“Do you have any idea what it is like knowing your not the real person and can be reabsorbed in a second some of us don’t mind it but the rest of us hate it,” the dupe said shaking his head. “I’ll never absorb a dupe I make unless I have to and I will never be absorbed by the real Jaime Madrox.”

He supposed he could understand that even though it made him wonder how many where out there. “How many dupes have you made?” He was extremely curious how many of them might be out there back home running around.

“About a half dozen,” the dupe said. “I know the real Madrox has like sixty of us out there that he knows about and expects to come home some day.” The dupe smiled then. “Don’t know how many like me are out there who skipped out first chance they got at freedom.” The dupe then looked depressed again. “Why did I ever decide to sneak into the X-mansion for fun to test my theory on Gambit.”

“What theory is that?” He asked slightly curious why the Madrox dupe had been there. “I mean as far as I know the original you never spent much time around Gambit at all.” He glanced toward the back where Gambit was talking with the dark haired guy.

“Honestly during the week I spent fooling around with Sam in Paris we got discussing which of the rest of the x-men might be gay or bi and I thought Gambit was bi.” He said shrugging. “I was in New York briefly and thought it might be fun to see if I could prove it.”

“That’s why you snuck onto the school grounds impersonating the original Madrox?” He asked amazed at what a stupid reason it was for doing it. “Couldn’t you have just found him in a club or something and made a pass at him.”

“Well I also miss the X-men some and being around other mutants so I thought it couldn’t hurt to sneak onto the school grounds for a while and be around my own kind,” the dupe said. “I mean it gets lonely some times being the only mutant in a given area.”

Any reply he was going to make was cut off as the ship was suddenly lifted off the ocean into mid air. He was about to react to the threat when a voice called out. “Do not be alarmed we are simply transporting you over the wall that keeps human and sentinel sea forces away from Genosha.” A bird woman said as she landed. She had vivid green skin with darker green feathers. Clawed hands and feet with huge dark green wings growing out of her shoulders. “Sam Guthire,” She said in shock when Sam walked up toward her. “This is impossible you disappeared decades ago.”

“Do I know you?” Sam asked clearly unsure who the woman was. “You sound familiar but I can’t place who you are?” The woman’s features shifted and she looked just like a middle aged dark haired woman. “Hazel Dixon,” Sam said in shock. “So that’s what your mutation looks like when it is active?”

“Yes, how did you get here you and the other X-men who vanished with you disappeared more than twenty years ago.” He still had no idea who the woman was and he wondered if she was from Genosha. “Look you can explain later but I need to go back to the island and tell everyone who’s on this boat it’ll get you all waved past immigration much quicker.” She was back as a bird woman then and flying away.

“She didn’t even wait for an explanation,” the dupe said clearly bored. “I mean first she has us grabbed by someone and now she’s going to make our trip easier.” He knew the real Madrox wasn’t that clueless.

“No she isn’t,” Sam said glancing over at Nate. “I’m sure she is warning them to be on guard in case this is a trick probably arranging for a psychic to be there to scan us as well.” He noticed the dupe looked a bit panicked at that. “But it should lead to us meeting the boss much quicker.” Oh yeah they’d get to meet Onslaught quicker. He wished he’d never offered to show that guy to where Gambit was.

The ship was soon flying over a giant wall that surrounded the Island and sat down inside Hammer bay. He was impressed to see massive cities once more on the island as they were lowered down and several mutants surrounded them. “They are clean,” A voice said and he saw the mutants backing away as a light brown haired man walked up toward them. “I must say I never thought I would get to meet any of you.” The man smiled at them then. “My fathers spoke of some of you very fondly.”

He realized then that this was the reincarnated Onslaught Madelyne Prior had created grown up. He couldn’t help but feel a bit of fear staring at that individual. “You all must be tired so I’ll have you shown to come quarters you will be safe here for the next month while you wait to time travel out of here.” He was extremely unnerved to realize he was in their heads getting details. “Don’t worry Iceman I’m not threat to any of you.” he said looking straight at him. “Come speak to me
later I may be able to help you with your trapped in ice form problem.”

There was no way he was going anywhere near Onslaught he just couldn’t trust him. He saw the slight flinch and realized he was still reading their minds. “I’ll think about it,” he said though bot he and Onslaught knew that was a lie he hoped this month would pass quickly.

The End.

What Next,

He should have never decided it would be a fun lark to sneak into the x-mansion for a bit of fun before heading back to Europe. He thought as they sat around with Bella Donna, The old witch, and Gambit and Storm’s daughter trying to think up what to do next.

“Can you tell us how all this happened,” Sam asked and wasn’t that a kick in the teeth. He hadn’t seen Sam since Paris and now he was stuck with him in a fancy space house his ex girlfriend gave him and his boyfriend.

“It started about a year after all of you disappeared,” Bella Donna said tiredly. “Gambit eventually showed back up but no one else did.” That filled him with fear if none of the rest of them made it back what happened to them.

“What happened to the rest of us,” the dark haired guy that Gambit called Jake said clearly freaked out. “I mean are you saying that we die on this trip.” He wanted an answer to that too he also was curious if Jamie would get his memories if he died in an alternate time line.

“No, it isn’t that simple our future isn’t written yet,” Rachel said speaking up. “The Gambit that came back alone to them is only one of our possible futures even though it is there past.” He thought he was going to get a headache even trying to follow that.

“Back to what I was saying,” Bella Donna said clearly annoyed. “Gambit arrived right when the Sentinels launched their first attack on New York he got Storm a few others out but most Super humans and mutants were killed.” She then looked away. “We and the survivors who made it to us turned New Orleans into a safe zone and held back the sentinels for twenty years until the new Nimrod units showed up then we knew our days were numbered.” She then looked down. “We were supposed to be the last group out after evacuating all mutants and advanced humans to the last refuge but gate way was killed in a surprise Sentinel attack and we ended up trapped in the city.”

“How much of the world do the sentinels control,” Rachel asked then. “In my future it was just North America but what about here?” He hoped that was the case he’d like to spend however long they were stuck here in Europe just sipping a lotte and waiting to go home with as little danger as possible.

“They control pretty much all of North and South America and over half of Europe,” Bella Donna said, “They would have conquered the whole world if Doom hadn’t made a deal with them.” He wasn’t sure he liked that. “He offered that if human governments enforced the Sentinel Standards of how to deal with mutants couldn’t they be left alone and the Sentinels accepted.” She then smashed a table. “All his pretensions of honor and nobility went out the window when he was threatened with losing his life and little dictator ship so he sold out advanced humans and mutants to them and the rest of the world followed suit.”

“Only Genosha is free it has been a last refuge for mutant and advanced human kind since the most powerful living mutant on Earth makes his home there and so far he and his followers have been able to keep the sentinels away.”

“Then it looks like we need to go to Genosha,” Sam said drawing his attention. “We can’t all stay in this house for a month and if there isn’t any where else safe it is the only place we can go.” He could tell everyone was nervous about going. “So who is the mutant leader who is so powerful?”

“His real name is Brian Xavier but he also goes by Onslaught,” Bella Donna said speaking up. He felt like throwing up when that was said and he looked around no one else was surprised but he was. How on Earth could Xavier’s son take that name didn’t he know it’s history. He suddenly wasn’t looking forward to going to Genosha and wondered if he could slip a Dupe in his place and just stay here safe in this house for a month.

The End.

In the Blood

She sat herself down beside Sam in the room where the three injured where clinging to life aided by medical machines. Her brother was dying and she felt incredibly guilty because she couldn’t tell them all the power he needed to save himself, Gambit and Emil Lebeau was buried inside him. They were the only ones in the room with Tante matte the Unified guild’s spiritual advisor and healer who was looking grave. “There is nothing more I can do chile the only thing that could save them now is the Elixer of long life and the last of it was used decades ago.”

“Can’t you make it,” Sam said sounding desperate. She put her arm on him and saw an image of herself as Mother Askani for a split second it was disturbing but she didn’t dare mention it now not with what was going on.

“I wish I could chile, I was told the recipe once by a dear friend but there is one ingredient that I don’t have and can never be found again.” The old woman said. “The formula requires Candra’s blood to work something inside her was the final piece of the puzzle.”

She felt Sam tense up suddenly. “The blood of an external is the final ingredient then you do have it.” He stood up and held out his arm. “Right here I’m from the same mutant subspecies as Candra.”

“Okay chile we will try it but you,” she said pointing at her. “Guard the door and don’t let anyone in, this Elixer caused nothing but bloodshed and strife so no one must ever know we used it to save them.” She nodded and went to watch the door. She glanced back occasional to see the old woman mixing things she pulled out of the bag she’d been carrying. She recognized it then it was Shaman’s bag how the old woman had gotten it she didn’t know but it made sense how she was summoning the things she needed.

Time seemed to crawl as she nervously kept broadcasting an urge to stay away out the door to keep the others from coming in here to see what was going on. “Done,” the old woman said and she turned back to see four cups filled with a mysterious liquid. “I need to drink one to make sure it isn’t wrong things go very bad when its wrong.”

“No you’re the only one who can try again its my blood I’ll test,” Sam said grabbing one of the cups quickly. “I can’t die remember.” He downed the liquid before the woman could stop him and then he seized falling to his knees.

“Fool boy the elixer can cause worse things than death,” Tante screamed at him. Sam stood back up after a second and then relaxed and stretched. “Are you all right chile?” The old woman asked after a moment.

“Yeah, it just felt like the time I died and came back all over again,” Sam said shaking his head. “It works so lets do this.” He picked up one of the glasses. “I’ve got Nate, Tante you take Remy and Rachel give it to Emil.”

She and the old woman each grabbed a cup but before she could get to him Emil flatlined. She started to run over there but then she saw herself as Mother Askani again. This time the image actually grabbed her arm and stopped her pointing at the cup and then at her mouth. “The Elixer can’t raise the dead chile,” The old woman said. “Do what she wants you to do I don’t know why but it is important.” She looked over at the old woman and then back at the image of herself as Mother Askani and downed the cup. Sam was right it was painful and hurt more than she expected but then she felt refreshed.

She noticed that Gambit and Nate had been given the drink while she was experiencing it. She saw them jerk and then just like her and sam they opened their eyes. “Welcome back,” Sam said and practically tackled Nate with a kiss.

“How ?” Gambit asked but Tante just shook her head. “Emil,” he said turning toward the other bed and then she saw his face fall. “You couldn’t save him?” Again the old woman shook her head no and She felt like an intruder to their grief. She headed out to tell the others that Gambit and Nate would live but that Emil had died.

The End.

The Delivery

“So any luck finding Wild child or Strong guy with Cerebra?” She asked as Nate and Sam emerged from inside the school. She could tell instantly by their faces that they hadn’t which was worrying. “Do you think we are finally seeing the beginning of that trouble Maddie warned us about?”

“Probably,” Nate said clearly annoyed. “I mean first Strong guy disappears from the Arena and then Wild child goes missing on Genosha.” She could tell that they were worried otherwise they wouldn’t have come to the school to borrow Cerebra. “Perhaps Xavier should have come he’s got more experience with that pile of junk.”

“If someone with your power level couldn’t find them magnified by Cerebra then no one can find them,” Sam said putting his arm around the other man. “We will find out what’s going on soon enough we always do.”

She knew that he was leaving unspoken the question of it would be in time to help their missing comrades. She then felt a strange echo not with her telepathy but with her chronoskimming talent and began to follow it. “Nate do you feel that?” She asked never sure if Nate had the same temporal mutations she and Nathan possessed to different degrees.

“No what is it,” Nate asked as he and Sam both went on alert. She began to walk toward the source of the echo and they fell into step behind her. “I do sense that however,” Nate said pointing out where Gambit was chatting with Madox. “That isn’t the real Multiple man that is the dupe from Paris you had a fling with.” Nate said looking over at Sam. “He got a nasty shock when he saw you were here.”

“There’s a strange temporal echo coming from over there too we should go see what’s going on,” She said confident that between the three of them they could handle anything. When they arrived she sensed the nervousness of the rogue dupe as they got closer. However, then suddenly Iceman was there leading a dark haired man toward Gambit.

“Hey Gumbo, this guy says he’s got a delivery for you,” Bobby called and then the echo began to become a scream. She watched as he handed over the box to Gambit and knew she had to stop him from opening it. She started running forward hearing Nate and Sam speed up behind her but even as she watched Gambit opened the box and there was an explosion of light.

She opened her eyes to find herself in a shattered mausoleum with what felt like heavy metal bands on her wrist. She could immediately tell though they weren’t actually metal but instead solid temporal energy. “Don’t worry the bands will disappear and only reappear when it is time for you to move on,” A voice said.

Gambit seemed to recover his wits first and exclaimed loudly on seeing the speaker. “Witness, what is going on Lebeau?” She immediately saw the red on black eyes of the white haired stranger and got a sense of connection between the two but couldn’t pinpoint how.

“What the hell did you give me to deliver old man,” the dark haired man said angrily. “I mean I’m great ful you arranged to give me my original body back but no where did delivering a gift to Remy mean I was volunteering to be yanked from Westchester to where ever the hell we are?”

“You’re a few decades into the future,” The man that Gambit had called Witness said. “Why I grabbed the seven of you isn’t important what is going to happen to you is,” the old man said and she noticed for the first time that Sam, Nate, the dupe and Iceman had got brought along with her and the delivery guy. “Over the next seven months you’ll spend one month in each of the seven most likely futures of your own time line.” The old man then turned and started walking away. “If you survive you’ll make it back home if not you’ll die,” he said. “I wish I could have given you an easy future to deal with first but it had to be this hell hole.”

There were explosions then from out side and she turned instinctively toward the sound as did everyone else. She heard a curse from Gambit and looked back to see the man he called Witness was gone. “We should go see what that is,” Nate said heading toward the mausoleum’s door. She and the others followed along and ended up seeing a city burning as sentinels attacks. She felt her heart stop as she realized what kind of future this was a nightmare just like her world. “Someone is fighting back.” Nate said.

“That’s the area where the guild is based,” Gambit said but she was impressed he didn’t take off. “We need to get closer to see if there is any chance of helping.” She could tell even through the static generated by his powers how worried he was.

“Right, everyone keep low and stay together,” Sam said. “Rachel, Nate your our heavy hitters so stay at the rear cause if we get caught you might have to take off and rescue us later.” She was amused at how quickly Sam took over giving orders and how everyone fell in line. “Gambit this is your home show us the way?”

They slipped through the cemetery and ruined buildings carefully they were nearly there when Gambit motioned for them to stop. A blonde woman was leading the way of a small group of four people. The red haired man was holding an unconscious black teen girl, and the old black woman was hurrying them along. “Bella,” Gambit said stepping out and she saw them freeze in fear.

“You can’t be here your back there preparing to blow everything we tried to protect up to destroy the sentinels,” the blond woman said dropping into a stance to prepare to fight. She braced herself for a fight but the older black woman stepped into the way.

“Be at peace chile they are from the past,” She said quickly and the blonde relaxed. “We must get out of the city when his wife dies Remy is going to release the charge he’s been pumping into the ground for the last hour it will destroy everything.”

She saw the others start but Sam was looking over at a door frame. “Hey Nate, you remember what Lila gave us last week,” he said pointing at the door frame. “It is worth a try don’t you think?” Nate nodded and Sam went over to the door and stuck something in the key hole. There was a strange ping sound and then he opened the door. “Everyone inside now it worked.” She didn’t know what he was referring to but before they could even step toward it a Nimrod crashed through the wall and attacked.

She saw Gambit and Nate both go down as well as the red haired man who shielded the teen he was carrying with his body. She felt her rage exploded and she released every drop of strenght she had into the sentinel which exploded. “Rachel Get everyone inside now,” Sam yelled as she had been moving toward the robot wanting to make sure it was dead. She grabbed everyone with her TK and drug them through the door into what appeared to be something similar to Lila’s house. “Nate, hang on,” Sam was by Nate’s side after closing the door. “Hey House do you have medical fascilities.”

“Yes, however, my supply of medications includes many that has expired since no one has entered me since Lila Chaney presented me to you,” The house said and a door way opened showing a medical room. They quickly rushed the wounded into the room and the old black woman took over claiming to know quiet a bit about healing. She hoped Nate and Gambit would be all right even as she reflected on the horror of what was going on.

The End.
